I want to take my 2 girls fishing this weekend. I want to be able to hook into a stringer full of bluegill, or trout, or perch or anything. I just want the girls to have some fun catching some fish. I live in Vancouver, where can I go to get some action for them. I won't be boating it....Thanks!

Big Cheese,
I've noticed you've asked about local lakes to fish in other posts....have you checked any of these out? How have you done? My son caught his first fish (actually a stringer of them) on Kress Lake, which is very close to Vancouver. We happened to catch bluegill, but I know that lake has other types of fishies as well.

I've gone to Klineline a couple of times with my son. We've had some luck there, but the fishing has slowed down there. I've also gone to Battleground and I've had some luck there. I've been trying to get to the Lacamas which is the closest to me, but I've been rather busy of late, so I haven't hit it yet. I grew up in Jersey, so fishing for trout is a totally different ball game for me. So, I'm in the learning stage myself. Where I go fishing by myself, and where I take my kids are two different things. I can stay out and fish all day, just to fish, but when I bring my kids I want them to have an experience where they can get a couple fish.

Big Cheese,
I have to agree with you there. Its a whole different game plan with kids. When my son goes with me its hard getting him out of bed, but as soon as there is something on the line I've got 100% of his attention. Good luck with your trip.

If you want to drive a little, Silver Lake in Lewis(?) county has crappies, perch, bluegills, bass, bullheads, and who knows what all else that will bite on a worm under a bobber, or just off bottom w/ a slip sinker or split shot. Perfect for little kids, or big kids like me. I would also highly recommend that you check the recent post by Stacey Kelsey of the WDFW. She is a nice lady and will mail you an info packet on lots of SW WA lakes for future reference. BTW, ever hear of Elizabeth, NJ?

Try getting the publication Fishing Washington, I believe you can get it at G.I.JOES. It will give you specie's of fish and direction's to the lake. Being new to the area I think it would be of great help to you. Take Care

Hey Cheese, Like TRAUT sez, it's hard to beat Silver near Castle Rock as a place
to take kids for lots of action on perch, croppie, bluegill etc. with the outside chance for
a very large stray bass or trout while panfishing.
For your own personal trout pursuits you'd do best by learning to fish on either
Swift Creek Rez., a boat only show, or up the river at Horsethief,Rowland,or Spearfish.
A little more travel but chances are good for better fishing than you been getting.

Hey thanks for all of your responses....my information gathering is complete. I have several lakes to fish, and directions and info on all of them. I have the packet from Stacie, and I'm ready to go....Hey Traut, of course I've heard of Elizabeth. We used to play them all the time in pre-season for baseball. Used to love going up there to play them. Mighty fine looking women. I grew up in Lakewood, NJ....
