Lots of guys can do head mounts of deer/elk but very few can do the smaller stuff well. Seems the face of bobcats, coyotes, ect just need much more skill to look real. Who did the work?

Those are great. I would love to get a cougar napping in front of my fire place.

Love the cat mounts, they always make them look so viscous, like there was some question of what the outcome would be, of course the cat never wins...but, at least it looks like he could have forever, and bad Boo-Boo The Bear mounts can be better than a good one.
I have always looked at those poses as defensive in nature as opposed to offensive. Most often the shooter saw a lot of tooth & claw as the enraged lion fought the dogs that treed it . Seems more docile poses are en vogue these days, however in my mind tooth & claw is what separates a predator from an herbivore. A display of weaponry is fine by me if done well. Docile works too though.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

2 many I just read your PM. Absolutely nowhere did you ask anything about the conservation organization orgs that I belong to. I'm not much of a socializer at all & not really into chit chat., but do respond to most pm's. Thanks. Philip Soucy of Libby Montana has done a number of lifesize animals for me including the lynx above, he is a stud of a taxidermist, one of the best in the country. http://www.philipsoucy.com/gallery/index.tplThe birds were done by Eugene Streekstra of Florence Montana, a superb bird guy. http://picasaweb.google.com/wildfowlunlimitedbirdtaxidermyThe deer were by Dustin Clark of Medford Oregon, he did my son's last two bucks, probably one the best Blacktail guys out there. http://clarkstaxidermy.com/html/portfolio.htmlThe sheep are by Dewayne Dewey of Cody Wyoming, hands down the best sheep guy in the industry. http://www.deweywildlife.com/photogalleries.cfmWildlifeartist Wayne Miller did the bobcats, the best bobcat guy anywhere, he doesn't do commercial work, he is in Michigan. http://www.wildlifeartiststudio.com/galleryframe.htm

Did any of you guys watch "Taxidermy USA" last night? I think it was on the Discovery channel. Show based on three shops in different parts of the country.
What a bunch of hacks. Their work was terrible. I couldn't stop laughing at their finished mounts.

Those are great. I would love to get a cougar napping in front of my fire place. looked like the whole team was napping in front of your fireplace the other night. Last Saturday night? You are right about that. I was in the kitchen and actually commented on how many thousands of dollars in Victoria Secret and Buckle Jeans (secret weapons of cougars and MILFS everywhere) was in the living room.

Just saw this thread! Recognized the work of Phil Soucy right away! If I could've afforded the 6500 to have Phil do my 8 1/2 ft Tom I got this year I definately would have. His work is simply amazing, he is a second generation Taxidermist, passed on from his father and looking at his artwork simply makes your jaw drop! Since I did not have $6500 to spend, I went with the best Taxidermist IMO on the olympic peninsula, Don Strait of Strait's Taxidermy! He was recommended to me by a couple of the most avid hunters I know, so I took a look at his work and I'm pretty impressed. With a cat, you want somebody like Phil who can get the eyes right, from lookin at Don's work, he does bring the life back into all of his creations and does a great job on the eyes. I will get my mount back in August. It will be a lifesize mount with the big tom coming down to the right with mouth open. Lookin forward to sharing pictures with ya'll when I pick it up. Thanks for sharing Sal, those are all works of art.
