I found a boat I want to buy. It is a 17 1/2 foot boat with a 90 HP.

Is this a good match? Is 90 enough? What kinda speed will I get out of it?

Also what sized kicker should I buy?

Thanks
Hunter

90 hp is enough for just about anything that's 17.5 ft. in terms of speed it's hard tellin not knowin, my 15ft aluminium boat goes somewhere between 25 to 30 mph with a fourty horse motor. sure i'd love to have more speed but i don't really need it. i've gone up to 50miles in a day which was alot, but it only took about 7 to 8 gallons of gas where i hear that alot of the big outboads get 2.5 to 4 miles per gallon which can add up big time. unless you want to pull waterskiers you're fine, for all i know it would work well enough for that. good luck.

I had a 85hp on my old 16 footer, that was enough to cruise and ski. My 18 footer has a 120hp which is also plenty of motor. You should be OK, depending on how many are in the boat. You'll get around 30mph. Even loaded you should be able to move along OK. You'll find out when you test drive it. You ARE going to test drive it, right?Your kicker should be 5-9.9hp.

Well my buddy bought a 2000 sylvan 17.5ft with a Yamaha 70hp, and all the goodies on it, trolling motor, kicker, livewells,3 batteries, tons of storage filled up, with 3 people on board and it does about 45mph. It totally rips compared to my very light 16ft with a 50hp on it. It barely does 30 when loaded right. BUT we ski and tube behind it, so if that's any measure of power, I'm sure a 90 will make you smile.
