I remember in the 80's a sturgeon in the 500 to 1,000 pound range washed up on Sand Point so there probably are some roaming the depths. I have know idea how to catch them though.

i'll bet there are sturgeon in there, but catching them, well, sometimes it's hard enough catching what there are thousands of. if you try good luck hope there's more then sturgeon that will pick up a whole chicken or else you may be skunked for a long time. good luck whatever you fish for.

Most of the local rivers have sturgeon populations at the mouths. I've heard of them in the Stilly and Snohomish for 20 years now.

So... if they are at those river mouths, then why wouldn't they be ganging up in front of the locks?

My guess would be a bunch of green sturgeon in the lake that went thru the locks.

Greens are the ones that usually live around river mouths.

One of the old Stan Jones freshwater fishing books had a picture of a guy holding a green. I think the Duwamish was mentioned.

I'm starting to think again. There were those fish in lake Washington before the locks were in. For a fish to be that big it has to be an old one. And since the picture was taken early last century. I don't know,it just makes you think.....

Sturgeon first entered Lake Washington when released from display tanks at the Alaska Exhabition which then became the University of Washington campus. The sturgeon found in the 80's
was the right age to have been one of those.

Also, there have been reports of sturgeon sighted in the large lock. cool
