Is it important that you use snubbers when fishing for trout? I know you need them for Kokes, but I wasn't sure about trout.
Also, what is the best way to use pop gear?

Fishboy,

What is this snubber thing? Weren't you asking about fly rods about 4 months ago. You know you'll burn in hell for snubbers and trolling lures... it's true. You will.

Did you and your dad make it up to Nimpo this year? If so, how was it?

A snubber is a piece of surgical tubing you put between your pop gear and lure.

I have never used them before, but this is what I know:

Snubbers are used to lessen the rod whiplash (creating missed hook ups) on the mouths of Kok's. Kok's have softer mouths than trout.

Zen, I know that I was asking about fly rods. This was a mistake. Fly fishing is too expensive and time consuming. I might take it up in a few years, but not now. I only get to go fishing about once or twice a month, so I've got to make each trip count.
No we haven't made it to Nimpo yet. My mom and brother don't want to go there, so when I get a car....

fishboy,

I was teasing about the snubbers.

About flyrods...maybe the best way to get some good used gear is to go to some of the garage sales in your area. I see useable stuff as some of the ones I go to. Or check with neighbors who used to fish... but don't anymore. Most of them are suckers for donating it to youngsters just starting out.

Nimpo and Anahim have lots of fish. Shame you aren't getting to make your trip. It would have been fun. Anahim has a couple of resorts on it that also have camping spots with hookups available. Only thing you'd need is plenty of bug spray as Anahim Lake gets some nasty mosquito hatches on it. Worst two I've ever seen have been up there. One time they were biting.

I used them this year on the Sockeye and they worked really well. We also cut the bottom hook off and very rarely lost a fish. They work well on kokanee cuz they are so spastic.

A snubber helps alivate pressure put on a fish ffrom pop gear and other sorts. they are mainly used for Kokenee because of the soft mouths though I have seen them used by people fishing for trout also. A snubber is a piece of sugical tubing with swivels on both ends and a a piece of dacron line in the middle of the tubing thats about 2 1/2 inches longer than the tubing itself.
