....so they bumped the net strength to 30 lbs (up from 10 lbs)...wonder how that will play with salmon and steelhead that might be able to break the 10# rated netting...

I think that might be a typo.

That looks like a good gear choice for summer steelhead, legally designated a game fish. Hmmm . . .

If it's a typo, then a correction is needed.

If not, and it is as written, then WDFW needs to do an emergency regulation change as the WAC is specific as to the 10# breaking strength for any shad gill net fishery.

I don't know what the OR statutes or regulations permit, but it is my understanding that the two states try to mirror their "manner of take" regulations.

The Compact also allowed sales of fish caught in treaty Indian experimental-gear test fisheries conducted by Yakama or Umatilla tribes. Allowable commercial sales of fish are limited to shad, walleye, yellow perch, bass, catfish and carp. Area would be in Zone 6 (SMCRA 1F, 1G, 1H) through July 31, 2011.
 A Joint State hearing will be held via teleconference at 1 PM, Friday May 13 to review Columbia River recreational fisheries.
