Who has watched this? What did you think? I watched it two weekends ago on the Netflix instant.

I was interested because I heard it had H3 in it, and I heard that Johnny Knoxville was a producer. That movie was riveting! It started out kinda funny and by the middle was just a really sad picture of life in a vicious cycle of abuse. Abuse of the system, abuse of drugs and abuse of children.

Sadly, as the husband of a school counselor my wife tells me that people live like this all over the place. Basically, the only way out is death, or having CPS take you away as a child (which happens in the movie).

One of the classic documentaries of all time...AP n I were laughing our asses off recalling some of the key moments in this one. Not much TV worth spending 90 minutes watching but this is some great entertainment.

What we consider "rednecks" or "hillbillies" are endemic all over the globe and you can find them in droves everywhere you find grinding poverty and crappy public education. I just got done island hopping and seeing shack after shack with piles of schit and junked rusted cars in the front yard of some schithole sheetmetal shack with poopy-diapered kids running loose with mangy dogs, chickens and stray cats... but a state of the art satellite TV dish nailed to the roof and a brand new pick up with cheap plastic bling sitting in the driveway. It isn't just Lewis county or Appalachia, even though it reminded me of Western WA and Central Pennsylvania.. I won't even go into the stuff I saw growing up, but it happens everywhere. Poor Americans wont admit it, but their lot is just the same as some poor spear-chuckin' (aka "outdoorsman" or "hunter") asswipe in Sudan or Armenia or India or Haiti. They have just as much opportunity and an equal standard of living. These are the same dumbfucks that scream and yell when they hear about taxes on the wealthy or taxing inherited wealth even though piss-poor Americans are the ones footing the bill for the DuPonts, the Trumps, and the Bush families to live like emperors.

Love that movie. My wife couldn't even believe they were real. I had to explain to her that, not only were they real, there are MILLIONS of people in the U.S. that aren't much different.

My 2 favorite parts of the movie:

1. "Do you know what the Boone County mating call sounds like?" Then he shakes a prescription bottle of pills.

2. When Sue Bob is going through the Taco Bell drive-through (high out of her mind) and is trying to yell through the glass to some semi-normal people about how her sister just had her baby taken away. "THEY TOOK HER BABY! THEY TOOK HER BABY!".

Sad, scary stuff. But incredibly fascinating.

Yah, Taco Bell drive in was one of the best parts.

I also liked where the kid in jail said "Oh, this judge likes me, I figure I'll be out tomorrow."

My wife told me just last night out of the blue that she wanted to watch it again. I have watched a lot of the documentaries on Netflix and that one was the best by a long ways.
