From a dog's perspective, one is either dominant or submissive. After a number of different breeds, I now have a rescued female pit and we savvy the concept. There is no doubt in her mind that this family is dominant over her. She's cool with that and has demonstrated so many times. She runs, off lead, behind my mountain bike and doesn't focus on anything else except following me, passing horses, people, dogs, et al without losing that singular focus. She's been attacked by other dogs a couple of times (I didn't see them first and the owners were not nearby), and she has returned to me to remedy the matter to our satisfaction-- sometimes with a dog firmly attached to her. The choice to walk in the world with a stalwart companion, whether a Pomeranian or a pit, comes with the requisite responsibilities.
That being said, a gun in the capable hands of someone makes them dominant over anyone/anything with bad intent. When choices are made to unwittingly question same, they oft write about such events in the local newspaper...
... with many unwittingly choosing to question same in the attendant comments section of the newspaper article.... Big Stick..?

I agree, too bad he did not get both of them. Bet he doesn't have any trouble there for some time......

Autopsy results are out on the dead thief. Shot in the back - there could be issues - and rightfully so.

Shot him in the front, the back, the side, wherever. It doesn't change that the burglar was in the shooter's garage where he sure as heck doesn't belong at 4:30 AM or any other time of the day without an invitation. The homeowner shot and killed a burglar, improving society by one less burglar. How can this be anything but a positive influence in society?
Burglars who aren't killed are rewarded by our justice system with its revolving door system, putting them back on the streets, often in less than 24 hours. Most burglaries are committed by repeat offenders. They repeat because even when caught, there is no disincentive to stop burglarizing. The only action I'm aware of that stops burglars from burglarizing is the infrequent action of the victim killing the burglar. Being an open-minded person, if there is any alternative action that actually stops burglars from continuing to burglarize, and being an ongoing plague on society, I'll listen. Meanwhile I'm delighted when I learn there is one less burglar in our midst.

Although I agree that the burglar's death is a positive influence on society, I'm not prepared to sacrifice somebodies life just because it is a positive influence on society. Why not kill the poor, the super-rich and gas the Jews as well? Society would be better off if we reduced the size of the human herd by 90%.
Society only has a right to do things insofar as it doesn't infringe on the life, liberty or property of individuals. If this individual was legitimately threatened, he had a right to kill in self-defense but if this individual shot him in the back because he thought society would be better off, he has no right. This homeowner is likely going to jail or at least a long trial.
As for the remedy for burglars, it would be a two part punishment. First, I'd put them in the stocks for 24 hours and publicly beat the sh!t out of them with a whip, while letting the public insult, hit, kick, spit, urinate and defecate on the burglar at their discretion. Secondly, then put them indentured servitude until they worked off three times what they stole, which would pay back both the victim and court system.

When some poor guy tries to steal some petty item out of your garage the punishment is death. When some rich guy steals billions of our countries wealth and loots the economy the reward is the presidency. Ahh justice at it's finest. I would gladly solve any issue here at Palacio Garra Grande by shooting an intruder in the face with a 230gr Speer Gold Dot. Pretty much ends it right there. Dump the mag and go for a reload. Classy move by rendering first aid. Shooter gets points for that.
Still a good shoot. All he needs to say is "I was in immediate fear for my life. I gave them commands to "stay right there and not to move (mother f'er's)". I thought they were making a move towards me and meant to do me grevious bodily injury. I need to talk wih my lawyer now."
Shoot them in the face, back, foot, leg, dick, ear or chest. Doesn't matter, as long as you make it out alive. Somebody on your property late at night, in your residence (detached garage counts towards "dwelling" as it is a part of your home. Attachment/detachment is not an issue since it is on the same property). Fvck 'em.

One hundred percent behind the home owner. Also like the "dick shot". But I sure as Hell don't trust our legal system.

There was a case last year (Kitsap County, I think) where the homeowner chased after a burglar that was fleeing and shot him in the back. The homeowner was charged and as I recall, convicted. This will be an interesting case as it unfolds. Burglary is not a capital offense, however, when a burglar is a threat to someone's life, the game changes.

The tweaker should not have been where he didn't belong, trying to steal something that wasn't his. Homeowner will be fine.
