Interesting story. From the footage, it looks like it was a pretty nice size bear (250 lbs. according to the article).

They killed a whopper near Lake Tahoe last year that was a habitual problem.

dog hunting thins the herd and keeps them pushed back from people. king county passed the ban on hunting bear with dogs let them live with them.

It's interesting how many black bears are up in Whistler B.C. in the village. I've spent a lot of time up there mt. biking the trails and have encountered several face to face. There was one particular time when I came around a corner and startled momma bear and her cub. The cub went right up a tree next to the trail as mom hung close by. I went with my instinct and first crapped myself and then went back up the trail the way I came. I decided to hang out a little ways up and warn other riders about it (the bear not the turd) and we gave it a good ten minutes before attempting to proceed. All went well after that but these encounters are so frequent up there that you would think things would get ugly from time to time.

If only we had a rep who would run a bear hunting bill? Oh wait, I know one.

I still get out with my hound buddy every fall.
