Small, light, kicks like a draft horse. I have an H&R 10 ga, 20 ga, and .410.

The 10 ga has a 2lb metal slug in the stock to balance out the 40" barrel. (Not really 40 inches, maybe only 36")

It will certainly get the job done on elk and lesser animals.

I have the New England Firearms Handi Rifle in a bunch of calibers and shot guns. Essentially the same rifle your talking about. I think the two companies merged a few years back. Its a fun rifle and you can get several different calibers/barrels for it. Its not a real accurate rifle, meaning it is way over 1 MOA at 100 yards but will hold groups that are reasonable for the kill area on a deer or elk under 150 yards. I prefer it without a scope and use the iron sights so I'm not tempted to push the accuracy limits. Dogfish is 100% correct in his recoil assessment and you will want to get a nice recoil pad for it.
