well, i haven't been bass fishing for a few months now (can't get enough salmon and after that, well, i won't get enough of the steelies) but every spring and all summer, bass fishing is my thing. it took my buddy and i several trips on black lake to figure out the bass, too. we'd target them for a couple hours, no takers, then just troll for trout so we could get some action (and action we got, once we found the spots). once we did find them and what they would hit we got action every trip after that. first you must locate the baitfish. i'm sure you've caught some perch there while trout fishing. this is what the bass are keying on. next, start tossing perch or shad colored rat-l-traps (or another rattling lipless crankbait). i'll give you a clue on as where to start looking...from the public launch, stay on that side of the lake and head toward black lake-belmore road, about half way there you will notice a point which juts out, anywhere in that area is where i've found the highest concentrations of bass and some decent size, too(a few 4 and 5's). mind you that i haven't been bass fishing in a while now but this pattern worked great in the spring and summer. i also live just minutes away from the lake and it was very frustrating to know there were bass in there and not be able to find them. hope this helps. there are much better bass lakes in the area than this fishery but there are some quality fish present. good luck
