Anyone know what it is? I have heard them mentioned as something to use for fishing Lake WA.

Carl,

A Jack Lloyd was a style of gang troll ("pop gear"). Haven't seen any around for years, but haven't been specifically looking either.

What can I say, I am a fishing information sponge. I do a lot of reading from various sources. I take a little from here, a little from there, throw in a pinch of that, put it all together and BAM...fish in the boat.

I keep thinking Jack Lloyd trolls were picked up by Luhr Jensen. I don't have my catalog with me to check that out... but think it was called out in the paper catalog. It doesn't show on the online version.

I was just down at Sportco on Tuesday buying some new waders. I did not even think of checking their supply of gang trolls to see if they had any Jack Lloyds. beathead

If it does exist (and my memory is working), it's under the Luhr Jensen name now. I'll try to check out my catalog tonight.

Us flyfishermen are supposed to know about all types and styles of fishing.

One of the other boards mentioned putting a small Dick Nite on a fly rod.... well, back in the old days (remember those Old Man) small Colorado spinners and small spinner fly combos were regularly fished via a fly rod. My dad taught me a fly rod rigged with a floating line was a real good way of fishing worms for trout. Fishing a string (or "cast" as it's more properly called) of wet flies is very similar to worm fishing.

One thing I think I'll do this next year is use more wet flies in lakes. I have a wet fly pattern that simulates a sunken callibaetis spinner real good. Used it up on the stream that runs between the Twin Lakes on Jim Creek naval station to catch cutts. Also used it on rainbows over at Chopaka early in the morning. First light the trout are cruising the lake taking dead spinners..... some of them sink.

Also, I still have some of those old spinner/fly combos.

Stopped by Sportco today to take a look at their gang troll selection. They did not have any Jack Lloyds but had Jack Of Diamonds. They looked similar to what is pictured above.

Jack of Diamonds is what I came up with too. Over the years Luhr Jensen picked up Les Davis, Tony Acetta and some other lines.

Now... back to the dark side.

Yeah, I remember the good old days. When you could fish Pilchuck creek and catch 15" to 18" inch fish all day long. Back then we didn't seem to think that the fish would never end but I guess that we were wrong. I don't think that you can catch fish that big out of there any more. Yeah but that was when I fished from the dark side. I'm not over there anymore,so this summer I will try Pilchuck Creek again with a stick and some feathers.

Jack Lloyd , manufactured in Renton by Jack Lloyd Tackle Co. Saw them at Three Rivers the other day, common gang troll used in Eastern Washington, I believe the distributor is in Spokane.
