When I was pulling into the launch after fishing the Sky last weekend my boat died and wouldnt start. Opened the engine compartment and there was gas dripping down out of the carbs. When I got home I pulled off the carb cover and started it. It fired right up but almost instantly gas started spraying all over from the jet between the 2 barrels of my middle carb and it died again. I did some research and it sounds like my high speed jet is stuck open, any easy fixes or should I head to 3 Rivers.

one of those two almost certainly. you don't see as many sunk floats as you used to, the manufacturing has gotten better, but often plastic needles will swell up and jam, and metal ones can get corroded and stick.

I took it to 3 rivers, they want to rebuild all 3 carbs to fix the stuck float on the one, 500 bucks! The boat is only 5 years old I really dont want to rebuild the carbs already!

The more I read about mercury engines, the less faith I have in them.

One of the boats I drive for work has a 200 sport jet in it. With less than 20 hours on the motor, it died in a pretty bad spot. Jump out of the boat and swim for your life kinda spot. Turns out it was a fuel pump, but still.

I would be curious to know what your problem winds up being.

As a Merc owner, I can say that they are the lowest POS garbage you can bolt onto a boat.

Perspective is right. I have an old timer friend who swears by Sportjets over any outboards because of the design, reliability, fuel efficiency, and power.

I would never restart an engine that had a leaky carb until I fixed the leak.
