If you’re looking at this you already know what this is; the holy grail of steelhead drift rods. This is the much coveted long gone brown blank, Fuji guides, premium cork, Fuji guides, all custom built. Blank has lifetime warranty from Sage. The rod feels like loomis 1082c in hand and is lighter than loomis 1084/1025.

9', 6-15lb line 3/16-3/4oz

Rod is 1oz lighter than the factory ct290 and balances right on the reel seat. I have a bunch of sage rods and 2 290's can’t justify keeping so many. $450.

I just finally registered here but i am under same name on ifish for 4 years.

And we all know you did pay anywhere near $286 for that blank, maybe for the complete rod

How old is it? I got some fly blanks from a buddy that works at sage for a real good deal because they were brown blanks and he said sage hasnt produced a brown blank for a long time.

This is the pre-gear blank Sage switched to green blanks around 2005 i think. Last 290 i saw was on ebay 2 years ago and it ended for more than what i am asking. Unless you have fished one, well you have no clue, its a step above anything else.

Bantam, if you think i am making money on this one you need to price a sage 290 from a builder... they were $350-$500 back 5 years ago and now anyone with one can pretty much set their own price as they will always be someone willing to pay for the cream of the crop.

I have a couple Sage rods..... Great fly rods/pin rods, tho I would never buy another as a drift/casting. So does this make my GSH2106LB baitcaster worth $450 as well?

TRBO handed off a 20+ to me on his Sage whatever, and I shat my pants handling the Devil fish, and we landed him.

Never would own one, too much responsibility

Ahh they are just a fishing rod, nice ones true, but just another rod in my book.

The sweet thing w/ the factory green ones is if you bust it Sage has a store of blanks to fix the thing. Not sure if they still have the brown Graphite II blanks around, they might thou.

Hope you find a buyer.

when i called sage said they will probably replace it with the newer green blank if this one fails, just pay to re-wrap it.

Got a few lowball offers, but its still here. I will drop it to $400 if no takers i am happy to keep a backup 290. New loomis 1084c is $395, really no comparison between the 2, every component is the best there is on this one.
