Why can't they ever get it right when they build boat ramps?

They spent a bunch of money to redo the Magnuson boat launch a year or two ago and for the most part it is pretty nice. The new docks are great and they have lots of out of the way tie up spots, which are great if you're lauching solo.

However, the ramp angle is ridiculously shallow. I have an 18' open sled, so its not like I need a ton of water to launch it. But yesterday I had to back down until the front tires of my truck were in the water to get the boat off the trailer. I've never seen a ramp with an angle that shallow.

Its almost like the guys who design these things have never launched a boat.

On a side note I almost got to see a pretty good boat ramp folly. A guy was backing up his boat and got it cockeyed. So he gassed it to get it re-aligned. He must have had the safty chain off and the winch unclicked as the boat almost came off. It was teetering precarously off the back of the trailer when he stopped. Another couple inches and it would have been on the pavement.

Everyone knows this except the morons who designed it.

We (people paying taxes for this eff up) all agreed that a guy should have to swim from his truck door to the bow eye to unhook his boat. We also thought that having your entire vehicle surrounded by a foot of water was the only way for people to really know its okay to unhook it. Safety first folks. At least the bottom of your car gets clean....

Designed by pencil necked geeks that have never owned a boat. moose

I have no clue what they were thinking when they re-built that stupid ramp. It is now the only boat launch that requires my truck exhaust to be submerged... lame

At least its fresh water?

I live close by to mag. watched the redo with much consternation as they lowered the docks (yea!!!), then changed the angle of ramps for the worse. Now, with an eighteen Tiderunner and my Silverado, I have to literally have the front tires in the water to launch! Fricking A, just make sure your motors are all the way and I MEAN ALL THE WAY UP BEFORE LOADING or youll scrape keel big time. Watch out for the City of Seattle police meter maid biatch. He'll ticket your ride and trailor if its 1" over the painted line designation. Went berry picking last year and there wasn't a car,boat trailer, person, pedestrian in the lot. 400+ spots available. Came back 30 minutes later and there he was ticketing my ride for parking in a boat and trailer spot only designation.

True, way to shallow. They built it for people launching huge bayliners behind mini-vans.

they may be pandering to jet skiers but either way, its a fu** up. no one thinks King County can do anything right with tax money and here you go. Maybe they can hire a consultant to talk about fixign it for a year or so. Nice effed up boat launch. Thanks arseholes.

A little history on this BS;

I've expressed my opinion pretty clearly to Garret. I think the city should tear it out and rebuild it!

Try launching at Redondo, that is a fine example of how boat ramps should be designed. This is a well thought out boat ramp that is a shining example of northwest engineering ingenuity
