Took Tye on his first hunt today. At a pay to play place in Ellensburg. He had never been around birds much and had never seen a gun fired in anger. I was apprehensive about how he might do.

Well the first bird he found and caught before it could fly. I took that as a good sign. Next he flushed and retrieved four other birds then found a dead bird Seastrike had killed. He absolutly loved it. Please excuse the big blobs on the lens. That is good old Ellensburg mud.

This bird lost his head. Lucky shot at too close range.

Look closely and you cna see this bird explode

Nice! Fished with Seastrike Sunday and he said you guys were headed over there. Cedar was very interested in the pheasants we transitioned outside last night, so hopefully he will do as well as Tye.

If he needs more practice Dave, Tye could help on the kids day hunt we have going.

So cool. Boris would be jealous. That last shot is a killer, both literally and figuratively!

Now, Tye is "hook'd on pheasants". That'll last a lifetime and most likely cost you some late fall fishing. Looks like fun!

Yep, and yep. I wanted Tye to find, see shot and retrieve, several phesants on his first outing. Mission accomplished. I think he now knows what guns are for and what hunting is all about. I'm pretty sure he will go bananas the next time he sees the shotgun come out.

Cedar goes ape whenever a rifle or shotgun comes out. Been practicing on starlings and crows this summer, and his retrieves are going well. Grouse tomorrow.

A wounded crow can be nasty for a dog to pick up.
My Chesapeake had a soft mouth until he started tangling with crows.

Everything got the obligatory crunch after that.
