Heading out to Banks this weekend. Anybody have any good tactics. Never been Walleye fishing before, thought I'd try it out. I'll be at the North end of the lake near Sunbanks Resort. Any info. is appreciated. Thanks.

you should stop off at Big Wally's tackle shop on the drive to the lake and ask them for some tips on where to fish.

I'd imagine they'd give you a few ideas on where to fish and what to use right now.

CHRISMAN: yes, stop at big wally's. it's a texaco station about a mile or less north of coulee city. right on your way to sunbanks. ask for gordon or don, in case they are in the store instead of out guiding somebody. they both guide for walleye, bass, and /or trout on banks lake as well as elsewhere.

another possible source of info is "coulee playland" located on banks lake in electric city, north of sunbanks. they have a tackle shop and launch ramp ($3) there.

good luck to ya', and let everyone know how you do!

Reason I mentioned stopping at Big Wally's is I'm also a walleye wannabee fisherman. Only been out three times so far in about 10 years so I'm still learning how to put worms on hooks.

Do have a guided trip on Banks with Big Wally's on June 8th... so am getting the short course in learning the lake.

You will need:
1.Fish-n-Map Co. map of the lake, about $6.00, well worth the money.
2. Night-crawlers
3. Worn trolls, Double Whammies or similar bladed spinner rig
4. 1 to 2oz. lead bottom walkers ( change to match the area and depth
5. Look for the boats ( not the ones with tubes or skiers) around Steamboat Rock or Million Dollar Mile
6. Start trolling in 20 to 25' of water
I will be over there Wednesday through Tuesday in the 179 Searunner/ 115 Yamaha.

BILL W: i suspect that paying gordon or don (out of big wallys) to guide you is the fastest way up the power curve of learning walleye fishing. it is spendy, but those guys sure have solid reputations.

last sunday, THE TROUTFISHERMAN took photos of the "big wally" walleye fishing tournament results/weigh-in. he told me that some of the tournament fishermen came in empty-handed, which surprised me a bit. apparently even if you are a good walleye fisherman you can still zero out now and then.

good luck to you, and please let us know how the day goes.

60 out of 102 boats got 0s on Sunday. The number was only about 35 on Saturday. It was a tough bite and a tough tournament. A couple teams limited the first day but got none or one on day 2. After 7AM saturday, it was a very long 2 days for me. Usually about May 15th is the time to start fishing Banks. The bite is just a couple weeks late this year but it will turn on very soon.

Do talk to Gordon and Don...They'll know where they are biting and both are very good guides.

Ended up fishing for Bass instead of Walleye. Ended up with 5 smallies around 3lbs on Saturday and 1 smally and one large on Sunday probably around 3 also. I guess I should get a scale. Thanks for the Walleye info. I'll have to try that next time.

Walleye fishing was slow last weekend but started to pick up on Sunday. Small-mouth fishing was hot....... black tube Texas rigged. The real deal is trout in Banks, 20''+ , fat, great fighters, beautiful color and very tasty.
