"According to a new report, the Mariners have the dubious distinction of being one of the worst in attendance among major league sports teams. The team has lost more than 40 percent of their fans in attendance since 2001, according to Yahoo! Sports."

Wow. That coincides with becoming one of the worst performing sports franchises among major league sports teams and rising ticket prices. Gee! Go figure!

Had season tickets for 10 years during the lean years of the 1980's and early 90's. This summer I went to my first Mariners game since 1994. It's a beautiful ballpark and I had a great time. But there's simply no way I could support the Mariners the way I once did - it's just too damn expensive.

Did you know that if you had 10 people in each section and 4 of them left, you'd only have 6 people in each section. That would be a 40% reduction in attendance.

NO [censored]! That's exactly what I heard today on some news station by some reporter.............. No phukng sheet!

And filed in the blank MadLib style...

...games

If the M's cannot put a quality team on the field, why would people show, for the FAN experience?

Here are my biggest complaints about the Mariners:

1) Howard's reasoning to keep beer prices high....to keep out the boorish element. (elitist snobbery)

2) Not letting fans express themselves with signs like Yankees Suck or similar styled shirts.

3) 'Rebuilding' the team for 10 effing years

4) Not bringing the fence in a little bit

5) Dave Sims calling games

The last 4 comments are spot-on.

Liberty Mutual Stadium is way too expensive and was designed for Bellevue attorneys and paid for by millworkers in Longview and machinists in Everett.

If there was a way to completely boycott the place until they made the experience affordable without being branded as a "communist" by Right-Wing KOMO and Mormon KIRO, I'd be all for it.

Charging the people that paid for the very same stadium $12 for a burger and $10 for a beer..fvckers oughta be shot.

If they wanna charge that, charge it to the Terrace Club or the 100 level cushioned box seats where they have the "attendants" run and bring you your food and beer and guards to make sure the Hoi Palloi don't sully your day by trying to bring their filthy children up to the dug out seeking autographs. If the Eastsiders don't like having to fork over an extra few bucks they can sit in the nosebleed like the rest of the fans.

This is a huge reason big hitters don't wanna play here. The wet air and the fence being a mile away makes this the worst hitters park in baseball.
It's a huge reason A-Rod left and love him or hate him, he would have added a lot of wins and fans.

JD,

I don't think either of us knows why A-Rod left. But I'd wager that the fences and heavy air had a vanishingly small influence when compared to the ridiculous guaranteed $$$ he was offered to go to Texas.

Hell, I boycotted the team for a lot longer than 4 years. Worked less than 10 minutes from the stadium for years and turned down many opportunities to attend games. Only went this past summer because of family visiting from out of town. But the Mariners lost me many years ago. I doubt they can ever rekindle a passion for the game and the team I once had.

I gave up on baseball long ago during the McGuire/Sosa BS. It isn't the same game I grew up with and loved.

I gave up on the NBA shortly after that.

I agree with you 100% on that. The game is supposedly clean now but the damage is already done. In my opinion Bud Selig has been a disaster as commissioner of baseball and much of the blame for the current state of affairs lies directly st his feet.

You're right about the money, but I remember reading a report that said his agent had talked with Mariner owners about moving the fence in and they said no chance. It was apparently said that his pursuit of the all time HR title was going to be more important and he wasn't going to stay in Seattle even if they offered him the same money.

Either way.... Mariners now suck

Oddly enough Safeco Field now sits where the NHL/NBA arena was suposed to be bult. But to their credit the NHL continues to reserve the territory south of the Canadian border for a future Seattle team. I'd love to see it happen someday.

The NHL has twice attempted to put a team in Seattle. We don't have a NHL team because our city leaders and a former NBA owner managed to shaft us on the deal.
