Just returned from a trip to the Vedder River in Chilliwack, BC. I've fished this river for over 10 years and have never had any problem with vandalism but we returned to our car on Saturday to find that two of our tires were slashed. What was worse is that there's no cell phone coverage up the river valley. We managed to get up to the fish hatchery and use their phone. Reports were that 30 other vehicles (all with US plates) were slashed at different areas along the river as well - all had two tires slashed. $500 in tires and $100 tow equals sh*tty weekend. Bummed that I sprung for the full year license now. Word is out on the street with authorities to what's going on but little they can do. Here's the thread http://www.fishingwithrod.com/yabbse/index.php?topic=28218.0

That has been an issue of there for a long time. I've always heard bad stories. Sucks.

Sorry to hear. I'm heading up there this week. Wish I had a game camera to set up for evidence "just in case"...

Don't go without the camera. It happened last week as well to a friend of mine. Don't think it will be any different next. The number of cars hit is astounding. It sounds like these guys have way too much free time.

Get a rental in Canada. Way cheaper than a tow and new tires.

We actually considered a rental car for going up Sunday . That or finding a set of expired BC plates that I could affix a couple of magnets to my WA plates!

I posted it on Fred's. It was Canada's Thanksgiving which is heavier traffic to the river. Pretty sad for sure.

Pretty sad to see what has gone down in the past few years. Of course the Vedder does bring out all kinds...

Well we stayed at the campground and still had our two tires slashed this past weekend too. Unless you plan on not fishing anywhere else I guess you should be fine. Just a heads up in case you havent seen it since last year... That whole stretch had TOTALY changed

No joke I have a couple of buddies that put different plates on their cars after they park. Just don't forget to take them off before coming back across the border.

Don't gorget tow truck drivers!

As far as I can tell those 4 groups encompass the whole town....

You know it was out of hand when Kiro 7 does a news story on tire slashing in Canada...

They probably feel it's a win, win....keep us away from their rivers and help boost their local economy since all of the Canadians seem to be bringing their dollars down here.

Loc: It's uncanny, I'm here too.

Love the BC plates idea. Considering the $$$'s spent by Yanks, it is pretty depressing to think about a trip with slashed tires or more. Of course we have our own problems with tweakers, big time!!

Perhaps Fred's should take a stance. It's not their fault but they do get some $$ from us southerners. I hope they are working on behalf of all their clients. If anyone knows how to contact 'enforcement' in or around the Vedder, Post It !!

Well we got slashed today at Allison pool. Ruined a trip for me, my buddy, and his son. Luckily my buddy had aaa and we found some used tires. I will never fish the vedder again. The sorry excuses for a life have won. I hope they get what is coming to them.

As active as they are, someone is going to stake them out and beat them mercilessly.
