It's spring again and the big bad boys of the resevoirs are getting highly active. Spring sure is a change of the typical mack fishing. You never really know what their moods will be and what lure choice will work. But one thing is for sure, your odds of hooking a Chrome fatty are in your favor. And they can be caught in as little as 20 feet of water which makes it easy for the less "geared" anglers. And can even be caught from shore.
Last year at this same time i hooked up with my biggest yet, 16.6lbs (avatar) on a 6" crankbait, and yesterday bagged a 13lber in the exact same spot on a #6 Vibrax. (BOTH Caught and Released) By no means monsters but better than little planter rainbow.
April and May can be very very good if your willing to search. We found them a bit spread out but finally pinpointed a small area and fished it hard. We put alot of time on the water yesterday and only boated 4 fish and lost a few others including one that just would not come up. But those 4 fish weighed over 30lbs(all released). Not bad for an 85 degree day, clear skys and with no one in sight. The only bad part of the trip was we got totally sunburned but who cares, just war paint.
If you got the time, you GOTTA give it a try.
