Stacie Kelsey -

I'm working on an article on best bets for anglers (lake wise) for trout in the month of May. Any recommendations for SW Washington?

You can either shoot me an e-mail or share it with all of us on this forum.

Thanks for the help!

JK

The majority of our lakes are pretty hot right now!

Clark County

Klineline Pond 11,000 rainbow
Lacamas Lake 4363 rainbow
Lacamas Lake 12,800 brown trout.

Plus we are doing all the Opening Day plants which I will have all that info by next Monday.

One hot spot that is not being utilized is Battle Ground Lake. With it being a State Park there is a $5 parking fee and the pressure is off at lake, but there are literally hundreds of fish not being caught.

I will post more info after Opening Day which is this Saturday!

Hey, I went out to Lacamas this past weekend and caught a few Rainbows. How do I get at all them browns in the lake from the bank!

make sure you are using biscuit dough! That's the secret weapon.

The other secret weapon is fishing at Round Lake because all the trout seem to migrate to the park area.

:-)

Now if you REALLY want THE hot spot to fish this weekend.... are you ready??.....

Little Ash Lake in Skamania County - just east of the Bridge of the Gods.

We put an extra special treat of sea-run cutts and triploids in there.

LOTS of fun to be had!

Thanks Stacie! You are awesome!!! Is round lake down at the east end of the lake? I've only been there 2 times. Is it by the Moose Lodge?

Go past the Moose Lodge down the canal into the park on the other side of the road. You can't get your boat over there, but there is great bank angling. The fish like to hang there because of the current.

Good luck!!

Thanks Stacie! I finally found the place Sunday morning. But the park doesn't open until 7 and I usually get there around six, so I just parked there and fished across the street and the fish were jumping. A little luck, but not as much as I'd hoped for, but I think I found my new spot at that lake.....

I am camping at Battle Ground tonight and tomorrow night. I had thought about venturing away from that lake for a bit to check out one of the other local lakes. I take it that you still recommend Little Ash Lake for a side trip?

Also, is there any idea of how many of the 240 biggies that were stocked in January are still in Battle Ground Lake?

Well... they're in there. The biggest I hooked was about a 15" bow but I saw several roll that were a lot bigger.

Now... I'm going camping again next weekend and I want to know where I should go. Does anyone have the URL to the list of weekly stocking reports on the WDFW site?

You're the man.

Say... any suggestions for a small lake with camping close to the water that has big fish in it? Within an hour or hour-and-a-half of Portland would be great!

I've never been, but BattleGround is a state park and I believe it has camping and some pretty good trout fishing.

Thanks. I was there last weekend. I posted about it in this thread. smile

We've decided on a more "girlfriend-friendly" lake and are going to go camping at Sunset Lake Park near Astoria, OR. That way I can take the lady out to dinner Saturday night... after fishing all day Saturday.

Fish on!
