Hi everyone. Im looking for input on a propsal that was put before me last week. iv been asked to help put in place live feed web cams at many of our most popular boat launchs around puget sound. The cams would be available for online veiwing 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The intended purpose of the cams would be to help boaters determine weather and water conditions, launch line delays and curret ramp conditions. there would be a $9.99 per month fee to join. This will help cover installation, maintainance and general upkeep of the equipment. Im curious as to how many of you would be willing to pay the fee or would even find this service usefull? Any feedback would be helpfull. Thank you!

Nathan

Hi Nathan. Seems pretty steep to be able to look at a boat ramp. I doubt many would jump at it. I also question the actual need. You can get tide info and weather info free off the internet, so the only benefit would be to look at the lineup using the ramp. Which wouldn't stop most people anyway. How many people check the highway webcams before going to work? And that's free. Sorry to be a pestimist but I don't see a great benefit for $10 a month.

I would have to agree that would be about $120 a year fairly costly amount. If the camera's go down for any length of time how do you keep the people happy. Getting the high speed connections to the sites can be tough also and expensive. I do this as part of my job, setting up webcams on our jobsites around the country so I know the headaches.

Cool idea but I know with the price of gas going up and up fisherman are going to have to cut back anywhere they can to afford to just go out.

You've gotta admit that it might make for some entertaining viewing, though. Hang around any crowded boat launch for awhile, and you'll find something to laugh about pretty quick!
