Nothing Gayer than a Roof Rod Speyer...Cheers One could say the same thing about a Dave Scadden outlaw'er, but one will choose to employ tact... Also, it is impossible to add zero...Cheers!

4 piece rod is easier to deal with than a 3 piece or 5 piece, IMHO.

I'll be goddamm if I didn't find myself getting too aggressive today, driving down a road paralleling a steelhead stream, listening to a dense bedtime story, with a couple four piece rods stupidly broken down into two inside the truck, while somehow taking a chance at feeling comfortable with my tool...when to my surprise, it took all of one minute to pull the rod from the truck, walk down the bank, push the two sections together, poke out the dumped line that was stripped off while assembling, and swing up a fish on the first cast.
All without having to show off my baddass quiver on the outside of the vehicle.
(Next time I'm taking my Tom Kruse Under Armour ATV Edition Hoveround...with surfboard, snowboard, cooler, long rods, and chrome hot air balloon strapped to the headrest...for massive balls and huge dick effect.)

Do what ever you want with your tool. Just keep the details to yourself. Glad you're getting more aggressive with it, though.

Coulda cut your setup time in half (at least!) with a roof top rod rack. It's all about effective use of time How did the second cast work out for you?

Despite what hater Keith has to say, it is functional in more ways than one. My personal motivation had more to do with dragging 10 rods back and forth between the guide shack and the boat two times daily, but I like it for spot hopping equally as well. Time spent minimizing long term and ongoing hassle is generally well spent in my book.

For conventional rods, I just use my Thule rack. They lock down, and are not coming off. Only temple scratcher is I dont fit in or am mistaken for the hyper cool crotch-scratching grunge crowd of spey fly flinging ellitists, nor am I properly recognized as a suction cup magnetic mount rod holder owning guy when passed on the highway... but that's cool with me. Sorry to have strayed....

Snowboard rack works the best for transporting rods. They're not going anywhere. Those suction cup mounts are a joke. They'll scratch up your truck (not too bad) and someday, they will fail when you hit a pot hole. I guarantee it.

Zip a couple of wafer head self-tappers in there and she'll hold.

In a comic book there would have been a "POW" caption following that upper cut. That was eloquently put... a turning point for an average thread now raised to "A" status. Advantage Driftfishnw!

I'm probably just being ignorant, as per usual, but have never understood the added benefit in keeping any rod in one piece for an entire days fishing? ...
From a gear guys perspective..... the hi-vis rod rack and prominently displayed ascot have saved me from countless tire slashings up in northern B.C. Oldest trick in the book.... show fly fish gear.
