I dug Saturday near Roosevelt Beach access, north of Copalis. I found lots of clams but most were smaller than I typically see at Tokeland. I am headed back on the 22nd, but looking for a some bigger clams.

I had to work on the truck and had a Christmas party Saturday night so I didn't go. :-(

In my experience I don't think the beach has much to do with size. It's just some times the big ones are showing and sometimes the little ones. Sometimes you can hi grade by the shows sometimes you can't. I've had times I can only find small ones and folks 1/2 mile down the beach got mossbacks. Nowadays I just take what I'm given and just go more often.

last time at roosevelt we found lots of small ones as well. This time we dug about 3 miles north of ocean city and did better - but there were still a few small ones in the mix.

I managed all my clams before dark but we still had a few to go for the rest of the group so we had to go up and get lanterns... Once we got back down to the surf we had a hell of a time trying to find them again.

Yes. And they were delicious! Nothing like driving home from fishing and dropping in on a buddy who just returned from the beach. Thanks for dinner!

I believe the "big clams" are a thing of the past. However, I got a load a nice fat ones off that same beach.

I didn't dig either but on the last one we found some moss backs. I think we are seeing the results of those plentiful digs last winter and spring?? Seems like there are plenty of clams out there they are just small..they eat good!

We got some mossy ones Saturday. We cook up the small ones and make chowder out of the mossy ones. Very good eats.

We too dug Roosevelt. Lots of smaller ones. Did have a hard time spotting them this time. Took us from 4;30 'til 6:30 to get our 4 limits.

Seaside has yielded limits even on less than minus tides, I would say the average clam is a medium, very few mossbacks.
I agree with those who say the smaller clams eat better.
Just canned 6.5 pints of smoked razors.
I had one half pint that didn't seal properly, when I opened it it smelled just like smoked baby oysters.

Got pretty close to our 4 limits and quit before dark. Picked 5lbs of Winter Chanterelles & Hedgehog mushrooms behind the place we stayed too.

I dug infront of the casino with similar results. A mix of small and medium clams. I noticed before dark alot of clam holes that would not respond to the normal wack of the ground. I dug a few of the holes anyway and found good clams. The clams must have been cold or something. We left with 1.5 limits and 3 wet children under 5yrs old. The kids thought it would be a good idea to run through the waves.

IMHO the more people you get wacking on the sand the less they show. I prefer to move along in Jedi mode

That's the advantage of using a shovel and digging in the water, way less people.
