Why would anyone in their right mind own a lab?

Smells like a duck, tastes like a duck... must be a duck (?)

Good thing he let it out!

Bag that all up and list it on ebay as 'fashion feathers' and you'll pull in enough to buy a few rounds up in Craig. Crazy teenie boppers are payin top dollar to put that $hit in their hair.

That pic reminds me of when my lab decided to drag his bed from our mud room out into the snowy yard, shread it, and scatter the bright green stuffing all over hell. It froze to the snow crust, and was in the yard until spring... mad

Glad you had the presence of mind to grab the camera instead of the broomstick! I'd follow art's comment, should only be another 3 years or so. Happy New Year!

Naw, I wasn't even particularly mad at him.

Today I am sorry for him. He got his nose up against a porcupine while quail hunting in eastern Washington. Not too bad as such things go but he had about a dozen quills in his snout.

I hope he learned a life lesson but would not bet he did.

Had a friend whose black lab pointed a pheasant. Dale kicked at the lump to get it to flush. It didn't. he kicked again and it still disn't flush. So, Dale lifeted the rice chaff off the bird so it could fly. That cleared the shooting lane for the skunk who hit both of them, Two weeks later Dale saw a skunk go into blackberries, to be followed by the dog. Shunked again. But, after the second time the dog learned.

In my expeiance with labs, which is probably similar to others here, is they can learn. It just takes a while. Sometimes days, sometimes weeks, sometimes decades.

One possibly good thing was that Tye barked at the quillpig. He never barks at birds, so next time he barks I will try to get him the hell out of there ASAP.

When it comes to removing those quills a pair of scissors are pretty handy. Just cut the point of the quill (the non-business end). It will partially collapse making them much easier to remove (even by hand).

Had one lab ( a yellow) that after the first experience with a porky always gave them a wide berth. A buddy's lab (a black) no matter how many times it got "quilled" would go looking for them. After getting stuck after getting the quills would go back for "seconds".

Hopefully Tye will be a fast learner.
