WDFW has been stocking this lake with kokanee for years with little understanding of their contribution to a fishery. Granted that the plant consists of ~25k fry and even under good conditions would not produce much of a fishery. Recent gill-netting caught no kokanee....only trout and perch. Anyone fishing this lake for kokanee? Comments? Thanks.

Never fished for Kokes there. Never even heard of Kokes in there. Ive trolled it with wedding rings and still fished with different baits, in both the fingers part and the open part, never seen hide nor hair of any Kokanees. Maybe the 3-4 nesting pairs of Bald Eagles living around the lake have something to do with it.

Then again..Ive never caught any trout there either.

Ive been skunked all three times I've tried that lake.

Seriously though. I've never heard of St Clair holding Kokanee.

This is this years #'s of Rainbow, broodstock, and triploid stock going into St Clair.

7500 Mar rainbow
5000 May rainbow
275 Broodstock
303 triploid

Kokanee fry are scatter planted each fall in the center of the large basin. A few years ago we conducted a survey of the lake and found 1 adult kokanee.....not exactly good survival and certainly not enought to support a sport fishery. In order to best manage this water we are interested in speaking with anglers who have recently (last couple of years) fished for trout or kokanee in St Clair.

The March plant (stocked last Friday)consisted of only 5000 rbt.

With that kind of survival rate, I can see why no one including myself has heard of any Kokanee in there.
