Since you can't handle the budget issues, might as well take the steps to help the the next person in line retain the Governor's office.

And the cycle continues.

So are you saying a majority of Washington voters are in favor of Gay marriage?

Not sure, but probably. I have no issue with it whatsoever because it really doesn't affect me. I think marriage should be between a man and woman but it's not up to me to decide or judge. It's only my opinion. We already have civil unions in this state which covers everything that a traditional marriage offers, but, if gays want to marry let them marry. Us straight folks have already proven that piece of paper really doesn't matter much anyway.

I believe it would pass because it doesn't affect anybody but the people who want the marraige. If civil unions already take care of the health insurance and other benefits, then it's all about the word "marriage". Justification of lifestyle "Look at me I'm married, I'm OK" thumbs

I think Clint Eastwood said it best...

"“These people who are making a big deal out of gay marriage?” Eastwood opined. “I don’t give a f.uck about who wants to get married to anybody else! Why not?! We’re making a big deal out of things we shouldn’t be making a deal out of. They go on and on with all this [Bleeeeep!] about ‘sanctity’ — don’t give me that sanctity crap! Just give everybody the chance to have the life they want.”

Fish on...

Not so sure civil rights issues should be voted on by the populace. Gay marriage has no impact on my life, since I'm not gay. Religious straight folks certainly have made a mockery of marriage. Can't imagine the the LBG folks could screw it up more than straight fils already do.

I have a real hard time getting my mind around this issue. On the one hand, I tend to believe that marriage should be between a man and a woman. However, we seem to have quite a few same sex couples involved in my daughter's elementary school and every one I have met are very nice, smart, professional people who as far as I know love each other and love their children. Also, the guys next door are gay and are two of the best neighbors one could have. Finally, it isn't my job to judge folks and impart my way of life on them any more that I would want it done to me. So, where do I go? I guess I am in the boat with you others that say basically, it doesn't really effect me. However, I was also reading somewhere this morning (I cannot find the article now) that domestic violence is on the rise between gay couples and the article was pushing the point that we don't have enough social support/programs such as counciling for these folks. I don't really think that we need to be setting up more social programs to handle gay/lesbian issues either. Furthermore, if the gay community wants to develop themselves into another minority group and have it based on sexual preference I'm not for that either. So in the end, I guess I am still riding the fence on this one.

The biggest problem is linguistic. Marriage used to be pretty well
defined. Now the definition is trashed. It would be interesting to
read S. I. Hayakawa's commentary on the word, if he was still around,

You should try getting used to it.

It most certainly SHOULD be decided by the legislature since their idiocy is only exceeded by the public's.

The only legitimate business of a state regarding marriage is "who pays for the expenses of raising any children that result from the union?" If a state handled the matter intelligently it would stop issuing "marriage licenses" and only issue "civil union" licenses to cover the state interest in child welfare. States could then allow churches (of whatever kind) handle the business of issuing "marriage licenses" under whatever conditions they choose. People are so fvcking stupid about issues like this, it's no wonder the gov't. doesn't have the time to solve a financial crisis.

Well SG I must agree with you ............... did I say that? Holy [Bleeeeep!]! But as one who has a dear lady friend who has a son who is gay may I say marriage is a religious institution that was co opted by government. Taxes, insurance, death benefits based on marriage are the government mixing religion and social policy where they should not.

Gee I wonder how the civil rights laws might have fared had we let the people of the individual states decide the matter. How do you suppose that might have done in Mississippi in the 60s.

Hank, your boy Gov. Christie thinks otherwise...he thinks the southern states should have voted individually on whether or not institutionalized discrimination should be ok or not...and Ron Paul agrees with him.

Dimwits.

We should have institutionalized discrimination against fat people and old people just to show those ignorant fukks what it's like.

I have no problem with gay marriages, more women on the market that might take a liking to me! Our society from the top down is filled with groups that bend over (no pun intended) the average Joe using the system dishonestly for personal gain, so put the passion to prevent the gay union for fear of fraudulent acts into punishing any and every POS that pulls wool for personal gain. And start at the very top and work down please. It only makes sense for the biggest and worst offenders to be dealt with accordingly. Imagine stopping the Bernie Maidoffswitcho$ and Wall Street moguls I meant maggots that scalded the fair skin of our economy to near fatal results. As for the reasoning to prevent gay marriage to protect the innocence of the children brought into the home setting via the gay relationship I have a universal problem with fun with the innocence of a child in anyway shape or form, there are plenty of kids ousted from households of Married men and women where genuine love for their welfare was ignored for whatever f'd up issue (take your pick) and if they can be adopted and raised by a caring adult(s) then I support it. Or if the gay couple get a surrogate mother or for a male gay couple or dude, sperm donor for a female gay couple or woman. Transfer the passion of laying your personal way of life onto society as a whole to providing a good upbringing and punishing f'rs (And I'm talking some mid evil shite punishment aka Zeds dead (Pulp fiction) ramifications if any adult thinks harming a kid emotionally or physically. permutable. Kids eventually become self-reliant adults conducting themselves using the tools of their upbringing and most times the sponge of cumulative cognitive learning spills deep with what those children learned from their parents/family. Base the mandatory set to act by bar high and may loving and caring come first rather than personal preference.

PS. This whole gay people being compared to Black people is so damn blown out of proportion. I don't recall gay people being hanged from trees or persecuted through out history. You can go back to Ancient Rome and Greece and see that homosexuality was widely accepted. Over time as Christianity gained popularity it became less accepted but not to the level of Blacks. Its ridiculous and damn near insulting to hear this comparison over and over again

Unlike some of you that were born here or in California, my family has deep roots in the South. My dad grew up during the integration time period. Constantly avoiding people in pick ups with Confederate flags. Hell I was down visiting my grandmother 5 years ago and had racist shiiet yelled at me. I don't recall commercials on tv discouraging racial slurs towards minorities but don't call something gay, the tv says its offensive.

I'd say Matthew Shepard's folks might disagree.

Is the killing of one kid less significant because it happened to many blacks, and not just one?

How is demanding that people not be discriminated against for something they have no say in insulting?

Didn't say its less significant but the struggles are apples and oranges. Thus the anger from people that lived thru the period of the Civil Rights movement. No where did I say demanding the stop of discrimination is insulting, the constant comparison to civil rights movement is. Its apples and oranges. I have nothing against homosexuals, we have a family friend that is homosexual, but that does not change the fact that the two struggles are different yet constantly mentioned as the same struggle..

Me and my wife marrying had zero affect on any gay couple out there. A gay couple marrying has no affect on my life. For those who disagree with gay marriage, how will this make your life worse? I'm not seeing it.

Why people try to control others to be like them is beyond me.

Just a question.....When they split up does the more feminine one get half the more masculine ones s--t?

This is just such a stupid thing. Why would I not want my gay friends to have someone telling them they can not go fishing because there are things to do around the house this weekend. That is something we should all enjoy. grin

So bring considered 3/5 of a person is the same as not being able to get married? I'm referring to the struggle for rights. Hence, my reference to ancient times. Hell even women had to fight for the right to vote. Gays civil rights is linked to marriage and the benefits/privileges associated with it. You are smoking good stuff if you believe the struggles for rights were the same

I am referring, once again, to the path to achieving civil right / goals of the group. Not referring to Blacks as it is today.

RB3 posted: "PS. This whole gay people being compared to Black people is so damn blown out of proportion."

So stop comparing it. It's not like every one is making that comparison. It is like the black civil rights issue in that it's a civil rights issue, only gay, not black. Beyond that, it isn't the same. Some may generalize and say it's the same for brevity's sake, but otherwise I don't think so.

So, do you have a problem with the central issue, gay civil rights that include the right to get married? Why or why not?

Probably due to the lack of fundy Christians in PP membership. Ya' know, the kind that don't go fishing on Sunday.

I have no issues with it. They're openly accepted in the military. If you can bleed for the country you deserve all the right guaranteed its citizens

That would be one of those fundy Christians who doesn't fish on Sundays, right?

I wonder what the offspring's offspring will have for a last name?
Maybe take a page out of the Mexican naming format?
New adventures. Cool.

"If your church still uses Starbucks, then your pastor is a friend of the world" Andrew said.

What is bad about this? I thought being a friend of the world just might be an ok thing. Maybe if I stop for some Satan Juice (hellova name for a new product) @ Starbucks, one of Satan's minions there will explain it.
I asked my wife if she felt the scantity of our marriage was compromised by the gay marriage law. She said after almost 40 years married to me, she can put up with most anything.

Pastor: Boycott Starbucks for supporting gay rights
By AMY ROLPH Seattlepi.com Published: Feb 2, 2012 at 12:58 PM PST

SEATTLE -- A Christian pastor is calling on Christians all over the nation to boycott Starbucks as long as the Seattle company continues to support gay rights. The ban on Starbucks comes from Steven Andrew, president of USA Christian Ministries. Andrew called on Christians to stop drinking Starbucks coffee as long as the company continues to support gay rights.

You might think "haters of God" is pretty strong language, but it gets stronger. Andrew goes on to say "Starbucks can follow Satan if they want to." Just don't drink their Satan juice, according to Andrew.

"Haters for God" aren't a damn bit better than "Haters of God". Haters suck! If there is a God, both of them will end up in the same eternal resting spot.

As for the original question, I'm still trying to wrap my mind around the fact that two Cougars can get married...

Reminds me of story of the interview with the couple married for 50 years.

Interviewer to man, "To what do you attribute 50 years of marital bliss?"

Man "Most of the time I didn't have a gun in the house."

Interviewer to womna, "After 50 years do you still love him?"

Woman, "No, but I'm used to him."
