on janruary 8th a buddy and i went on a day trip to the quilyute river. we arrived, about ten in the morning , to a beach full of people and looked for a spot to fish. would have liked to fish the lower end but there were three vehicles and about ten rods already fishin. we set up our stuff and i went for a walk down stream to see if there were any way we could squeez in. when i got there i could see about 6 people, some kids, were there but there were a whole lot of rods fishin. i asked the guy at the very bottom who was fishin the bottom two, cause there were 4 rods positioned by him, he said he was fishin all four rods and he could do that becuase he was a quilyute indian and when they are subsistance fishing they are allowed to use as many rods as they want, he called his tribal fish and game and one of them showed up, his name was morris jacobson, wa talked and then he drove downstream to his peeps. now his boss showed up, mr. foster and we talked, he also said they could legaly do this on a weekend when subsistance fishing. i asked him where that part of the decision was written, he said it was not written, it was understood. i said ########! he then claimed that this was ok because the quilyute tribe only had 5 miles of river they could net and fish. i said that they had a lot more because every fish returning to spawn in the bogey, calawah, dickey and sol duc had to travel through that 5 miles of river so in essence they are netting the whole system! does anyone think they were out of line, or is it just me? oh, some of the other fishermen on the river thanked me for this whole confrontation.
