I am looking for some info on Rufus Woods. I like on the Westside and am wondering how bad the roads are this time of year, and where the best place to find a motel closest to the Cheif Joseph Dam end. And also wondering if 4 wheel drive is a must for the ramps. Any info would be awesome, THANKS!!!!

Copper you might pick up a copy of "Fishing & Hunting news" They have articles on eastern WA. Might be some contact people in the Magazine to contact.

why the joeseph end??

check out trailswest motel in coulee city. about 30 bucks or so a night and clean. bar attached has some good food as well.

as for the ramps assuming you are launching at Seatons grove it is about a 35 minute run down to the pens if that is where you plan to fish. 4 wheel drive not necessarya s seaton grove launch is very sweet.

I love being able to deliver the goods:

Rufus Woods winter fishing article

4 wheel drive is always preferred but it won't help on ice!

Thanks for the info. I am looking at fishing the cheif joseph dam end, and looking for the closest motel. Does anyone know if the town of bridgeport has a motel? How far of a drive is it from grand coulee to Bridgeeport state park? Is that ramp in good shape also? Thanks alot!!!!

I heard the dam end by the cans was a great spot to troll. Where do you recommend as a starting point? I am pretty much a troller, but i hear if the current is good enough you can actually anchor and run your stuff back like hoglining for salmon.

The town of Bridgeport does have a motel, but its a "sleaze pit"! I slept on top of the bed spread and kept my shoes on due to the dark oil stains on the carpet.

The Pateros Motor Inn(?) in the town of Pateros is a very nice motel; right on the Columbia River and not that far away from Rufus Woods and the dam.

If one wanted to launch at Chief Joseph Dam ,is it better to stay at Banks Lake or at Pateros? This would be relating to drive time and accomedations .
Thanks,Mike.

If you launch at the dam... fish parallel to the floats in front of the spillway and along the south side uplake to the golf course.
