Don't know where I've been on this one...I didn't have any idea that he had brain cancer.

What great Hall of Fame career.

yeah he was diagnosed about a year ago... he was kinda rattled, but thought he could win... then the brain scan came, and it was worse than previously thought...

Gary was a true legend, and one of the greatest catchers, and players to ever play in the MLB...

RIP Gary, you will be missed....

i think there may be a book about the 86 season now that you mention it... it was about as memorable as the Kirk Gibson bomb that he nailed while injured and could barely walk in 88 with the Dodgers.... the guys in that era, WERE baseball, not like it was back then now adays, not at all....

Gary Carter was a hell of a player, particularly when he was with the Expos. He never met a camera he didn't like either. Those Mets teams of the mid 80's were tough. However, in 1988 right before the start of the NLCS David Cone wrote an OpEd piece that described why the Mets would beat the Dodgers. Didn't happen as the Dodgers featuring Orel Hershisher and a utility outfielder Mickey Hatcher beat them up. That series was fantastic and it set the table for the unbelievable Kirk Gibson home run against Dennis Eckersley and the steroid powered Oakland A's.

Who was the better catcher? Bench or Carter?

Bench...

but, Carter is a very close second to the best to ever play the position... maybe even tied with first, because of his class...

he may have Hank, those 3 players are what catchers should thrive to be... another guy to throw in the mix would be Rodriguez, in his hay day, he was a very good catcher and ball player...
