I don't get why that not enough for some people. Its crazy to kill a resource that already in bad shape.
With most of the people on most rivers "fishing" now days I cant see it getting better any time soon.

Ya and if your really into conservation just leave them alone and see if you can get a picture of them coming out of the water without a line in their mouth.

I don't think that anyone here is saying that its a bad thing to c&r nates if you are practicing proper catch and release with the right gear.
I do think its wrong to keep a native steel tho. Its not even a matter of conservation at this time its a matter of good ethics.

I'd rather let them spawn than play them out.

I caught a few nates even fishing for hatch brats this year. If your gonna avoid them all together the only way it to stop fishing entirely.

CrowBalls, I don't know where you live but if you're interested in watching them spawn, float from Trafton to Arlington right now. Lots of "fishermen" and none of them are practicing CnR. You could also float the Pilchuck, Sauk, Green, etc. They may be spewing their eggs but probably on someone's lawn.

Pro C&R people: How many times do you think a Steelhead can be caught without dying? Ever even thought about that? Too preoccupied with your cameras? Can't pull your head out of your a$$? Don't know where to start in the first place?

I would say that steelhead are pretty darn tough considering the process of tethering and tubing them for broodstocking on the Duc. On a side, you wouldn't believe the handling techniques employed on the Clearwater River in Idaho. Guides consistently bring them in the boat for 2+ minutes and send them back in the drink like billy bass. Washington is leaps and bounds ahead in proper handling techniques.

Is it true that if the regs were changed to Catch and Release of all native steelhead that the Indians could claim our share of quota? It seems so counterproductive to even allow the killing of one native fish.

Has anyone done enough research to know the actual process of changing the regs. If it is possible to make it happen, then I think it is about time for us to work toward that goal.

Perhaps your the one without a clue?? The intent of CnR isn't to see how many anglers can hook and release it, but to let it hit the gravel and spawn....

The folks here treat the fish they release plenty fine. Mortality rates are minimized, and their CnR practices are much much better than the average steelheader who make drag one up the shore and kick it back... Steelhead can make it a few seconds out of the water for a grip and grin shot.

Not making any friends here so far. haha
What your beliefs are are you own and nothing more.
Lets ask you a question. What do you do if you catch a nate? Since it seems your against catch and release. Its not going to help apologizing to the fish.
I would say the majority of real steelhead fisherman are more concerned with the well being of the fish and not as concerned with getting a pic. If it was so horrible to catch and release we should all stop fishing right???
Remember this is a fishing board. Probably the only one that's not too plagued with people trying to cause drama. This for drama free fishing related topics and not valley girl bull shiitt.
