haha SZ i can see your point about the plugs not the insest. But I enjoy it when im rowing the plugs down river. If im in the front its not as much fun. I like just about anyway to catch a fish tho, as long as it works.

Sorry to wreck everyone's mind set on plug fishing.Plugging is an evil necessity @ times.Just kinda boring as heck....................I think I'd rather plunk.Good luck, SZ Are you kidding? I'll take sitting around a warm fire at a plunking shack all day any day over rowing a couple of lard butts back and forth through a hole while they whine incessantly about being cold, wet and not catching any fish.

I have a couple plug rods for steelhead that i need to get setup and i have not done much plug fishing so i was wondering what kind of line (braid, mono) you guy like to use, and what pound would be best?
Actually amazed how this far gone -no art in line just in the rown
Vis line - there is a reason for it
Thanks Are you a rower or a boat whore? If rower you are captn run braid and mark your stop (when you see the mark -click) "they ain't rown a d it gives you a mark point-otherwise backbounce, drift, spinner spoon - life is good just fish and learn

Oh... and SZ, the whole pulling plugs is like sleeping with your mother statement, boring and not much fun, ill just go ahead and take your word on that but im still going to give pulling plugs a shot! Thanks again guys!

Thanks again guys! I think it depends on the person. I've spent more time backtrolling than I have any other method. Why? Because I still enjoy it and get a rush when I see a rod double over from a huge steelhead, not to mention it's pretty damn effective -- almost cheating -- if you know how to do it properly. The only advice I'll give to you is that if you find fish, row back up and go for a second pass, or third if you're lucky. If you're really lucky you can hook 5 fish out of one small hole.

Thanks to this thread I went out to buy some new 30# hi vis Power pro.
Thanks to this thread (perhaps), all of the stores are out of 30# hi vis Power pro.
I have a love/hate relationship with the internet. What stores? I saw some @ both 3Rivers and Outdoor Emporium the other day....

We don't have real fishing stores down in Eugene other than some small shops that don't carry a lot of overhead. Yeah, but you do have one hellacious golf store. I'm gonna make due with 40# for awhile but I'm worried about my buddy busting a rod with this heavy stuff. How about scoring your guides? Make sure yours are hardened (SiC,TiCh or equiv) and braid compatible. FWIW, more people snap rods with braid due to line twisted tips or trying to dislodge a snagged or hung up line than fighting fish. But, when one of your plugs gets hung up (and one will) be sure to use gloves or be very careful to avoid cutting yourself trying to pull it out. More than a few times I've heard the "crack of death" as a boat was getting flushed out of a hole with a diver or plug solidly snagged in the passing tailout. With mono the crack is usually the line, but with braid it's invariably the rod.
