sens the q's basically said we are a sovereign government so we will do what we want. does this mean the city of Aberdeen can say no to providing police and fire protection maybe require a passport to visit their nation.

Just a quick question that maybe Todd can answer. When the land reverts to trust land, is that land then considered to be under the same rules of the reservation lands and treaty laws. If so, then shouldn't the alcohol ban included in the treaty be enforcable on all trust land as it is on the reservation. Could a person file for an injunction against construction in federal court, based off their assertion that they will be having alcohol sales?

They sell alcohol at their current casino, but not at the Merc in Taholah.

Undersize sturgeon as well from public tesimony. I recall from a meeting at the Log Plavilion before the former Director WDFW.

So they will continue to take at will? Whatever credible way to market sturgeon parts, even to Californian buyers?

I guess non-tribal members will be allowed to sue the Quinault tribe for contributing to an existing problem?......... http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-201_162-57374180/tribe-suing-beer-makers-over-alcohol-problems/[/url] Looks like they get to have their cake and...............

If the white man never took their land, there'd be netting and liquor stores everywhere.
Note to future President Gingrich: when you take the moon settlements from E.T. and mork don't sign treaties for their land.

The State gas tax that the tribes get back is $.28 cents per gallon. Tribal members also get some of the Federal Tax taken off too. It is like $.38 per gallon they get off. This will hurt the area stores run by locals who have been doing this for years. Anywhere there is a tribal store with gas, the others stores are loosing their azzes out there. We the people need to quit buying from them and quit using their Casinos too.
You got it right as the plan is in stages but the gas tax kick back will allow them to undercut the other stations and that is the money they want as gambling is a side show to the gas tax. It averages about 5 to 15 cent with a real average of about 10 cents state wide. That is why the issue is in the state Supreme Court and they should rule on our darling Governor's sell out in the next few months.

Your numbers are very close or right on but they do not use the entire tax to undercut the non tribal stations, just 5 to 10 cents a gallon. With the margins at the pump per gallon as tight as they are .05 to .10 is a huge advantage.
Oh yeah almost forgot the tribe pockets the rest of the gas tax kick back from the state and does not allow audits to show how it is spent.

Yea, right.........do you ever live in a bubble world..... Most are to young to remember.....EARLY 70'S, WE HAD A CHANCE TO LEGALIZE GAMBLING IN THIS STATE, that would have benefited the whole State.....church, do good'ers, etc......voted it down....tribes saw the chance.........rest is history!!!!! I use to love the "pinball machines"....long gone......

I don't think it's living in a bubble world to think that people could decide to not patronize casinos or their stores.

I'm interested to see what the city does about providing utilities to this location. I.e. Sewer, water, power (from GHPUD). Is the city going to drag their feet on that? Will they be forced to provide utilities?
Is the QIN just going to pop in a well and water treatment system, and a mini-sewer treatment plant right there on the bank of the Wishkah, in the middle of a city?!
Who approves the environmental and life safety permits in this case? I am guessing it is most likely going to be Tribal offices in Tahola. BIA has engineers who could review the plans, but they typically only review the plans when the Fed is the funding source.

I remember the story from a few years ago when someone was working on a well at Island Crossing, discovered that the septic tank was almost over the top of the well. Someone suggested that code should have been at least 100 feet away. We're told that they were sovereign nation, could do anything they wanted.
