Train your kids around firearms, even if you don't have thenm, because they will run into them somewhere when you are not around.

Good advice Dogfish.

When I was taught GUN SAFETY IN SCHOOL there were lots of people that did not have them at home and we never heard of shootings like we hear about today.

Except maybe some dumbazz from the city getting shot while hunting!

I'm just guessing, but I don't suppose that WDFW firearm safety training and hunter safety training like I took when I was a kid is offered at the local public schools any more?

We started with the boys at age 4 with real training. .22's for a little bit, then cantaloupe with a face drawn on it meets a shotgun at close range. The point got across real quick. Still need to work with my youngest, but my oldest it pretty good and very safe.

As much as I don't like the NRA, they do have a program called the Eddie Eagle program. It is a good program, and it does get taught in schools.

I am in agreement with a few here in that he does need to see some charges level against him. Sad situation, no winners at all.

If he would have kept it holstered he wouldn't have had an issue. In Tacoma at midnight, why would you disarm yourself? Very sad situation indeed.

beathead How many more do we sacrafice to the freedom of
having a driver's license even tho you might be a lousy driver?
Waste of time, you never will figure it out eddie. The gun is just
an implement not much different than a car. Both deadly in the
wrong hands. Unfortunately it seems that TIME and opportunity decides
who is deadly and when.

Another eddie comes to mind when talking about the youngsters, Eddie Eagle
has been doing kid's firearm training for years butthe folks that dislike the
NRA limit his exposure. Too bad for the kids.

However, firearms safety is the responsibility of parents. Start your
children very early, for their sake.

I see another tot was killed by accessing a gun under the seat of
the car he/she was left in with a sibling.
It seems some adults NEVER LEARN.

NRA and proud of it.

Something needs to happen in cases like the last two where children "find" their parents' guns lying around loaded and shoot themselves or someone else...

The parent needs to go to jail, for a long time. No more pussyfooting around. The NRA will find some way to oppose this, and fukk them. Just as with all the other "tough on crime" scenarios, at least this dumfuck won't be leaving a gun lying around again.

Same goes for the cop who did it the other day.

Enough of "tragic mistake" and "I'm sure he feels bad" bullschit...yes, I'm sure he does...not as bad as his dead kid feels, or someone else's dead kid when this happens the next time. He'll really feel bad when he loses his job, his pension, and his freedom.

If every mention of "someone ought to do something" is met with "don't touch my guns!", then it should happen the other way around...no new regulations, but quadruple every penalty for violating them, at least quadruple them.

Fish on...

Todd

Back to the original incident:

Looks like in addition to the reckless endangerment charges (gross misdemeanor) filed against the mom & boyfriend in the Bremerton, they are both being charged with "assault, 3rd degree", which is a felony, and "unlawful possession of a firearm", another felony, because both have previous felony convictions.

5 years is a lot better sentence than 1 year. Wish is was more in the Bremerton case.

This latest story got me thinking about two things. First, what parent doesn't teach their kids that certain things are off limits. Some little kids learn not to touch a hot stove by burning their hand, and some kids are persuaded not to touch the hot stove by simple explanation. Either way, they learn. Same with guns.

When I was little there was a list of things in the "don't touch" catagory, so I didn't touch them. Same with my kids when they were real little.

The second thing is what parent would leave a loaded gun where a little kid could access it? I think I always knew where the guns were in my house, but I didn't know where the ammo was until I was taught to shoot. I did roughly the same when my kids were very young. There was no way they could ever get guns and ammo together unsupervised.

I think the problem in all these recent cases is due to a form of bad parenting.

Fukk you too todd. I suspect the NRA will be completely in agreement with any penalty attached to the obvious felonious endanger-ment created by both parents in the two latest incidents. Officer or not. Stupidity doesn't recognize your attire or profession.

Marsha, I am well aware that the problem is with irresponsible people that own guns.

Reports say that this was a boyfriend that left the loaded weapon in the car with the child unattended.
Apparently he had a concealed weapons permit.

So idiots can get a CWP ?

Hopefully a long jail term awaits this knucklehead.

Washington has averaged 1 accidental shooting death per year, based on a news report this morning. Every one is a tragedy, but there are far more deaths caused by beaten children, falls, and choking deaths each year.

When are we going to stop this insane policy of shower ownership. I mean showers should not be allowed in every home. Look how many falls there are. Broken hips, arms, bumped heads, drownings, electronics dropped in the water and dont even get me started on the prison shower system and soap dropping issues. We need stricter punishments for not having grippy floors.

Elect me and I will bring forward bath safety legislation. Protect the children and elderly amoung us, those who can not protect themselves.

We can do better on in the greatest country on earth. Yes we can!!!!!

A good amount of TESC students already support the shower ban.
