According to another BB, DU biologists at the PDX
sportsman show think a shortened season my be in the cards for next season. The problem seems to be the lack of water in Alberta and central Canada. I wish I knew more about it. Do we have that many birds in the Pacific Flyway from this area?
When a seasons length is changed do we take time off of both the front and end of the season? Seems to me we start a little too early anyway. On the otherhand, I sure would hate to see the season end any sooner. I can't ever remember a Sat, Sun & Wed only season as was mentioned as a possibility. Any comments appreciated.

Knew this was coming, and really about time - this last year I had no northern greenheads at all on my farm in Satsop - in normal years I get 500-1000 a day during December and January. And the bands I have recovered have all been from Alberta - the local contribution pales by comparison.

What I would like to see is a later start to the season - start mid October at the earliest, the third week would be better. I would also like to see a split in the season - let the birds have a month off and then start it up again - shooting really is a lot better this way and the ducks have a chance to settle into areas a bit. What I really hope is that they don't end it early - then I will never get a chance to shoot northerns as they pretty much never get down to the Chehalis valley until mid-December, and then I only get a month to go after them frown

Spawnout, thanks for the reply. I agree that a later start on the season would sure be helpful.
As an FYI, a local fed biologist here in PDX is
monitoring some of the hunting boards to get a feel for what hunters think. Found this out purely by chance today when I talked to a friend at breakfast. Anyway, he mentioned this board as the guy's newest to watch. Hope he sees our two opinions and passes them on to whoever he reports to.

Sat,Sun and wednesdays only? I would sell all my waterfowl gear before I would hunt on the weekend I have not hunted a weekend in a couple years. there is too much skybusting and people setting up dekes 50yds from your set to put up with that sh!t. It used to be that there was a split season for ducks, I think thats a good idea it would give the ducks a chance to chill for a while. The other thing I like would be a later start to the season, nothing worse than trying to hunt in E. Wa. when it's 70 degrees in mid-october
