That was a way cool sequence for sure. Watching the fish get all twitchy and finally make up it's mind to take was awesome.

I have a mind to make a film like that about side-drifting,

Loved the fish strike portion. thumbs

As far as the rest.......to me it is representative of why I don't mind fishing alongside fly guys.....too much water that can't be fished effectively/efficiently. I used to fly fish for steel back when fish were plentiful and pressure was light (before spey rods became the "thing")and even then it was obvious that I was passing up way too many fish.

Coley's trip would have been an exception. Lots of fish and lots of fishable water and little pressure.

Don't get me wrong. Fly guys get a hat tip from me for effort, but it doesn't attract me to want to participate.

I don't think effectiveness really has anything to do with why most people fly fish for steelhead. As most know, generally speaking a swung fly is pretty low on the scale of what steelhead will most readily respond to.

There was some interesting insight into what motivates some fly dudes in the recent "Bantam's Skuntruder" thread for those that missed that gem smile

Even as a part time fly guy I don't mind sharing water or bringing up the rear with other fly guys (or gals) in the run. Seeing as how the vast majority of fish go unmolested if not undisturbed entirely, the water is usually pretty far from properly destroyed.

That's a great video. Kidding about the side-drifting comment. Few things I hate in life, but that method, to rack up numbers in the face of species decline, is one of them. Much rather swing a spoon or some feathers myself, but to each his own,

Kinda looked like a guy wearing preppy clothes, trying to catch a steelhead using the least effective method known to man.

Right but he can brag more when he gets one than you can and that is what is important.

Plus, the cool heads at Patagonia only care if you fly fish so you probably aren't very cool. Sorry to be a bringer of bad news.

All mostly a joke dude. I hate the spey fart movement as much as the next guy. Some days I feel embarrassed being surrounded by these guys at the river......and I am a fly guy first......

Some real nice footage of unmolested areas of river are always a pleasing thing to watch.

We all carry a cork and would hate see this turn into what's the most effective method to catch a dwindling run of fish. In the end it's what connects us to this fish and workIng together to change it around.
