Looks like you had a great day on the eastside, Dave. Last week I spotted 64 elk grazing in a Kamilche Valley pasture. Couldn't put horns on a single animal. Had to have been a spike or bigger bull in a herd that large. Anybody know if westside elk have shed their horns already? Obviously, that's not the case at Oak Creek.

Yeah, he is. I can see why you might think he's not, but I was there. Only reason I took the shot was cuz he was on the rock. Later four of them were on that rock at one time.

We spent the weekend on the Duckabush a couple weekends back, and saw what we thought was a bull-less herd of 40.....til we put the glass on them and sure enough, lots of new horns just beginning to poke out.

It's prime time for horn hunting right now..... earliest I've encountered a shed was Feb 22nd, but it was a booner, and the big boys do drop first, a few of my buddies have already picked up some dandies. Those bulls that KnowsFish saw were probably last years calves sprouting their first set, most the big guys are pretty reclusive for a while after their headgear comes off... I've got stories.

Not a bad two day hike....

Wow Stam, that's an impressive pic! My family is big on horn hunting in these parts, we find some dandys every year. When every body else is hunting for Easter eggs were hunting for horns.

Thanks for the followup. Next time I catch that herd out in the open, I'll look closer for "new growth". Nice collection of horns, Stam.
