I drew an archery tag in the desert unit. I know there are soom good bucks in there. I also know it will be tough hunting in late Sept. Does anybody have any info they could share on that unit? I appreciate any help.

Check with the regional biologist. My buddy drew the same tag, and is slowly putting together some good info.
Archery hunters traditionally do poorly in that unit based on state stats. Lots of open country with a lot of willow thickets in some coulees and draws.
It's a tag I would love to draw in the future, good luck.

That's funny a buddy of mine with a tag has a friend in Selah. I don't think they are the same though. From what I've seen It will be tough, but done right the payoff will be big. I figured the archery success would be low. That doesn't bother me at all. Thanks

I've got a couple buddies(actually 6) who drew archery tags this year in that unit. 2 of them drew it last year and got on bucks quite frequently. All I can say is scout as much as you can and get as far back in as possible. The 2 who drew it last year have been scouting for 2 weeks and are seeing bucks every time. You have to be in there well before sunup and stay past sundown to find where they are bedding and where they are feeding. The bucks will have 3 or 4 spots to bed during the day to keep in the coolest spots. They're going to be hunting out of treestand in one bedding area they found some good bucks in. They have already seen a couple of deer pushing 30" and most have been averaging between 22-24".

As for spots to look at, I'd check some of the Game Dept. land off Dodson road and the far east side of the unit. My buddy still hasn't given me any clues where he's been scouting and I can't blame him. He told me if I draw it he'll help me out.

good luck!
