Where legal, this continues to be the pre-eminent harvest guideline on my barge. If it's clipped, it goes in the box... regardless of size, sex, or maturity.

Other "rules of engagement" endorsed by Team eyeFISH.
1) Team Single
2) Team Barbless
3) Team Hangback
4) Team CCA... well at least for another season.
5) Team ALL hatchery fish MUST die

Coho:
In marine and/or tidewater, ALL legal coho MUST die. This is due to the obscene release mortality of salt- and/or transition-water coho.

Buoy 10 chinook:
1) Unless mortally wounded, ALL wild tules WILL be released
2) ALL hatchery fish MUST die.

GH/Chehalis chinook:
1) Unless mortally wounded, ALL wild hens WILL be released.
2) Unless mortally wounded, any wild buck over 30# WILL be released.
3) ALL hatchery fish MUST die.

Seem like pretty common sense rules to me! thumbs
I'm not as dedicated as you when it comes to the "All hatchery fish must die" thing, because I don't buy the idea that a fish that has survived in the salt for two or three years and returns as a high teens or low twenties fish needs to die, but I have no beef if that's your thing. The "wild" thing is more myth than fact, IMO.

Not a lot of boots in marine or tide water and he doesn't seem to have trouble finding enough members that he likes to fish with to fill the seats in his boat.
Just sayin

Never understood your "all hatchery fish must die" hang up Doc. Seems greedy and senseless to kill something for that reason. Take only what you can use and waste nothing is my motto. Seems like that is a better lesson to be teaching future generations. Yes I get that hatchery fish are there for taking and yes I get that you believe they need to be removed from the gene pool/spawning grounds, but with all due respect making such a blanket statement as "all hatchery fish must die" makes you sound arrogant like you have decided to play God and fix what you believe is a "wrong."

Isn't filling a river with man made fish a bit more like playing god than keeping your legal limit?

All that needs to be said.

Francis - no offense intended, but those are the gayest stupid rules I have ever seen.

Almost asdumb as saying if you drive a chevy ... I am not riding to the boat ramp with you.

I'm going to have to agree that if we're worried about "playing God", we should worry more about "we'll just ruin the rivers, and then fill them up with man made fish" God-like behavior than "hatchery fish should not spawn", which besides not being God-like, is actually supported by science.

Fish on...

I would guess that you will never have to worry about Doc's rules.

(1) Unless mortally wounded, ALL wild hens WILL be released.

Food for thought. In broodstocking we picked up a real pattern and it was that you end up getting bucks first ( with some hens ) then the females follow which is expected. The pattern went off of the normal ratio though as harvest ( primarily net ) seemed to get into the males at a far greater % than female. It still takes two to Tango I am told.

Also on years with not much rain the females came much later and they were not colored much as in they were not laying around the fresh water. In years of no early fall rains the Chinook hens move, no matter what, with the Chum again silver color ( not much FW holding ) but eggs 90% developed. No idea what the Chum thing related to except maybe just a time thing.

CCA card: check
Single and barbless: almost check; This reminds me, some of my spinners that came with treble hooks are still set up that way. More tackle tinkering this summer, and that's OK.

All hatchery fish must die serves more than science. If we as sporties don't harvest them one of if not both of two things happen.

#1 Commercials/tribes pick up the slack and get more netting days

#2 They cut the production at the hatcheries so fewer excess fish make it to the hatcheries.

Coho in marine water die a very high percentage of the time when caught and released.

It is not wasteful to take hatchery fish that are supposed to be caught. If they get eaten and not wasted what is the problem with it? Coho are planted at numbers that are supposed to be harvested, not return in huge excess to the hatchery.

I may be wrong but I would bet if eyeFISH found out anyone whom went on his boat intentionally wasted fish I doubt they would get a second invite.

This is region 6, while managements philosophy may or may not be totally screwed up we either follow it or get less opportunity and the netters get more or they produce fewer fish.

Lots of lists going around PP this year.

If killing all hatchery fish is the goal, I have a cheaper and much more effective plan.

Are you going to implement that plan with those stellar returns of hatchery turds on the Nooksack? grin
