It could be the first presidential election where both candidates have negative approval ratings...a true "hold your nose and cast your ballot" election.

If the best we can come up with in this country is a vote for Perry or Obullshitta, I will skip the election. Unreal Perry is what the GOP has as a front runner. I can not even listen to that wacko with his past comments.

We need a third party in this country worse than ever before. Where is the party of the Bull Moose? Please Teddy come back, come back.

Rather than b!tch on the internet, how 'bout you get off your ass and do something about it ?

Hard to take anyone seriously who lacks the sack and courage of their convictions to actually work towards their stated goals now, isn't it..............

Guessing that is 'not your job' because you 'don't have the time' or some other such drivel.

Plenty of opportunities in this country to engage politically, just have to actually want to do something other whine like a 3 year old. Whining is easy, the rest is a bit harder. When your nuts drop, maybe you can play with the big boys someday. Until then, best you STFU before you get called out as a pussy who lacks the courage to do anything but b!tch.

Whoops.....................too late.

Majority Expects Obama to Lose Re-Election

A majority of Americans expect Barack Obama to be a one-term president, an assessment on which, in past elections, the public more often has been right than wrong.

Just 37 percent in a new ABC News/Washington Post poll say they expect Obama to win re-election in November 2012; 55 percent instead expect the eventual Republican nominee to win.

More here.

Opposition to Obama grows — strongly

Four in 10 Americans “strongly” disapprove of how President Obama is handling the job of president in the new Washington Post-ABC News poll, the highest that number has risen during his time in office and a sign of the hardening opposition to him as he seeks a second term.

More here.

If you read the platform of the "Bull Moose" (Progressive) party of 1912 you would quickly find that much of what that party stood for was incorporated into FDR's New Deal of the 1930's. That said, many of the Progressives (as they called themselves) remained in the Republican Party. Republican presidents like Eisenhower, or our former Washington governor Dan Evans, fit within that Progressive Republican tradition. That can be seen in the stance they took on environmental and conservation issues, which certainly fit within the tradition and conservation legacy of Theodore Roosevelt. However, beginning in 1964 following the defeat of Barry Goldwater, conservatives within the GOP began to organize and assert themselves and the Progressives (which the called liberal or "northeast Republicans") were targeted. By 1980, with the election of Ronald Reagan, the conservatives began to take control of the party in earnest. Over the next several decades they all but marginalized and defeated what remained of the inheritors of the Bull Moose legacy. They even began to jettison Theodore Roosevelt's conservation legacy beginning with the appointment of James Watt as Interior Secretary during the Reagan administration.

So if you happen to lean Republican, and don't like the choices you see, then I suggest that you join together with other like-minded Republicans and begin the effort to take back your party from the lunatics of the far right that are now in charge. But I am not going to hold my breath waiting for that to happen. Frankly, I think that fight is already lost for years to come.

You might want to check recent polls that compare Obama's approval rating to the Congressional Republicans. And if you haven't yet got the memo, that's exactly why Obama is running against the "do nothing" Republicans just as Truman did.

Hankster,

Are you as obsessed with tracking all the far-right drivel that your posting suggests? Get a life man. Fish more. Do anything in that foggy city more. I'm not saying politics isn't important, but you're dwelling in the weeds of marginal relevance.

You could be interesting and useful if you posted reviews of SF Italian restaurants, or something. Maybe sleuth out wine bargains north of the bridge. Some people in your area lead interesting lives. You ought to at least consider joining them.

If Obama were running against the Congressional Republicans for prez it might make a difference...he's not. The Truman "do nothing congress" won't work for him this time out; he can't even get enough Dem votes to get that POS "jobs" bill passed.

I do those sorts of things but posting about it wouldn't interest most of the people on here and it wouldn't annoy the rest. I like to stir and getting the tu-tus of the libs all twisted up is amusing to me...just as it's amusing for some of the more outspoken members from that side to stir

You're only a couple of clicks away from the "ignore" option if it bothers you so much.

wink

So you stir the pot to get a reaction so that you can react to those reactions with the ignore button.?????

I don't seem to have the free time that you do or choose to use it elsewhere.

Nice try. But the reality is that Democrats are much more moderate than they once where. For instance, where are the large programs from Clinton or Obama that come even close to those enacted by FDR or LBJ? Hell, even Nixon enacted the food stamps and WIC programs. I suggest you compare Obama's health care plan to Truman's proposal.

"Nice Try"

Funny. The real problem in this country is no one has the middles back or is willing to do anything that might help the country. All the parties are interested in is finding the next issue to beat the other party over the head with. Pitting one group against the other and creating the next issue that might get them extra camp money and reelected.

That could be fixed with simple and true reforms in our system such as publicly funded camps but as we saw last election, if you can get more money selling your soul to corps and unions, why do that. Some term limits would help to get the life longs out and new less "endebted" pols in as well.

The other problem is people similar to yourself. Those that believe one party is some how better than the other. You are the type of person that keeps the system in place. To busy fighting for one and against the other to see the big picture. They are both full of B.S. and could not give a rats a$$ less about anything other than their own reelection.

Get the money and life long pols out we might get some improvement in this country. Until then we can count on what we got. Big labor and Big corp screwing the rest of us because that where the money comes from that paid for their elections. Money=a seat at the table.

Just keep your head in the sand and chant over and over. Rep bad, Dem good, Rep bad, Dem good. If you say it enough it is bound to become true. It seems to works in politics anyway.

Nobody's on my ignore list. I get a chuckle out of some of the chowderheads here...why would I deny myself a good laugh?

docspud, while I do not support term limits for Congress, I certainly agree with you 100% that we need to find a way to get money out of politics. As for the parties themselves, I see them as quasi-state electoral institutions - nothing more than election vehicles. They are certainly not true political parties as most of the rest of the world understands the term. So my allegience is to a set of particular political ideas, not the parties themselves..
