How come there is so many predominantly Mexican people at all the Home Depot's looking/waiting for work? Why aren't they rounded up and deported? Who is it that makes the call NOT to do something about that kind of bs? I have to wonder why people think illegal immigrants actually contribute to the economy by filing and paying taxes. I doubt any of those workers at the Home Depot bother with the taxes unless they expect a refund. WTF

Their alternative would be sitting at home waiting for their checks to show up in the mail. I'd prefer they worked instead of sucking up county money. If you think they're taking work away from Americans, well, those Americans can stand out in front of Home Depot too.

I haven't experienced that at the two that I frequent at all. Lacey (Hawk's Prairie) and Aberdeen, and I have a "Pro" account.

I have hired them several times. They always worked their azzes off. I respect hard work for pay. So do they. Round them up and ship them off and who's going to do the hard work for low pay?
I sureashell don't see a buncha white teenagers coming around wanting to mow my lawn. Right now my rider is broken. I would gladly pay some kid $30.00 to mow my 3/4 acre of lawn. It takes about 75 minutes. - so far no takers.

But it would be the new "street corner" seems to me, where "casual laborers" congregate hoping that someone buying materials needs help. Legal, top of the table stuff ? No, most likely not. But for $10 - $15 bux an hour, what do you want, a lazy American kid or a Mexican that will work his a$$ off for you ? Mind you, not all American kids are lazy, but I've seen a few. Seen a few lazy Mexicans, too. They don't last long, though.

I think the reason you see the Mexicans at Home Depot is because they're qualified to do the work that people go there looking for workers to do, they like to work, and they need to money.
Go downtown, or to any busy intersection where there are panhandlers...God Bless! Every nickle helps!...they aren't Mexicans.
Mexicans think every nickle helps, too...they just prefer the nickles in the form of a handful of 20's at the end of the day after working all day.
Anyone who ever says anything about Mexicans not working hard, being lazy, or taking jobs away from Americans is a fuckin idiot...100% pure and unadulterated idiot.
The ones I've worked with in the trades are hard workers, are always on time, never take an extra minute for break or lunch, and never leave early...
Maybe the better question is "Why aren't all the white guys who don't have jobs standing outside of Home Depot looking for some day work?"
Fish on...

I have had a few negative experiences with the "brown guys" from the HD parking lot.
Had a pair that wanted $15 and hour after they were on the job for a couple of hours (when they agreed to $12 when I picked them up), they convinced my associate onsite to take them back to HD while I was on a material run.
Another time I had a pair that just didn't want to work as hard as I was. . . . I am done paying "illegals" to do any work for me. .. it is hard to find good help period these day it seems.
My 10 and 12 yr old neighbor boys work harder when I hire them to do yard work for me at my place. . . .

If they are here illegally then they get free health care and other benefits, and as you say they don't have to pay tax. Even the ones that are here legally probably are being paid under the table. Not sure who enforces - IRS, Customs, Border Patrol. I know the Border Patrol has hit the Forks area hard. Wish I could find somebody to wash my truck for cheap or mow my grass. I shattered my patio door when I hit a rock with the weewacker today. Anybody want a job replacing a Milgard sliding glass pane?

The difference is American citizens are collecting unemployment the illegals are on anchor baby money (welfare, food stamps, electricity paid & from what I gather rent or mortgage payment, etc.). Want to know how to work the system? Don't ask an American.
Sorry, don't mean to be mean but it is true.
Now adays on gov projects - most are families, for example almost all tile layers are Russians right down to their grandma with the scarf on her head. Owner / Operater that is the new prevailing wage.

L&I can never seem to catch them though - not that they are doing anything wrong, just too fast. Loud words - collecting of goods & running like hell. L&I tried for 3 weeks on one job before giving up. I know this is about Mexicans (all though most aren't - lots of S. Americans here legally from hurricanes etc). I still call them all flojos - they call me worse. But just gotta share my new Russian words - Babushka (that's what you call grandma!) Pajalusta, Prestiti, Peevha. Nit malkawa - Da Peevha. Spelling??? Lol My life is....[Bleeeeep!].

Yeah we had some Russians lay our laminate floor, via Empire, and they did a good job. One didn't speak much English. The other guy spoke broken English. But they did a good job and worked fast. Had to call customer service to fix a bad spot and they came out and fixed it.

Yes - they do a good job - no doubt. We have as of late taken our que from the Russians & Flojos on jobs - when they walk - we walk. No one works for free. Good grief!!! Had a owner rep & a project manager tell me - we don't finance you! To which I said - we don't finance you! Not anymore anyhow - lol -when the Russians & Flojos walk so do we!

I've had no problems getting teenagers willing to work for $10-15/ hr on basic crap jobs cleaning up foreclosures. I pay better for skilled labor. Had a fun weekend after the ice storm cleaning up debris with 4 great kids. Had a crew of 8 teens picking tansy.
Most of the kids are client's kids.

It is a myth that the Mexican illegals men get all kinds of free welfare benefits. There are no welfare programs, that I am aware of, for single males of any race. Almost all welfare programs stem from AFDC. Aid to FAMILIES with Dependent Children. No children - no wlefare. There are some very limited aid programs for disabled, blind etc. But a healthy, single man has no benefits that I am aware of.

Not packs, droves. There's a C-5A flight from Tijuana to Lewis-McChord bringing you fresh crews for the Home Depot lineup on a daily basis.

Catholics over the age of 18 who are not married or reproducing are probably rare. Catholics encourage reproduction, 10 fold. So to think that the home depot line up are single guys is naive. I would line up also at Home Depot if my living expenses were covered to make some daily cash. With that said, my grandma was 100% Mexican. If I was to count on one hand the best people I've known in my life - she is definately there -counted. Not sure what I would've done w/out her growing up. She immigrated legally into the US. I don't agree with the system as is...it sucks...it is ruining the construction industry. There HAS to be a better way. So here is a link, didn't read the website & forgive me if it is bias but was just looking at the figures. I know I'm out there lately but if you lived my life for the last 3 weeks -----you would understand. http://immigrationcounters.com/

On another note - our riding mower is dead. We have 2 but one is now dead. Routinely mow the 80+ year old neigbors yard but for the last few weeks have neglect & tried today but...killed the mower. Chain was off - think the transmission got messed up....it was bad over there -definately not the motor. She has an acre but only 1/4s mowed. Maybe she will have to hire someone. Gotta keep our only working mower - working!

Why the hell would an American citizen take a job from an employer with no option for healthcare, paying under minimum wage, working you for as long as the day is bright, and being totally fricking illegal? Only an illiterate, dumb @ss, pos would do something as dumb as that. Real Americans have pride and we demand no less from our employers.

Well that is a fantasy world 'cause not even illegals do that...seriously!
Ok well we have 3 riding mowers but one is a shinny brand new John Deer & never used...so just to look at - but kinda fun to ride full blast thru the yard - every now & again.

Also most people that used these day workers were saying they were paying them $12/hour, so that is above minimum wage. Just in case you forgot.

When I was talking to my accountant about a flip I was working on, he said the biggest exposure for hiring workers from Home Depot or unlicensed contractors is if they get hurt on your property, you may be faced with a large claim that your insurance may not cover.

I almost hired a few this weekend because I have a bum leg right now and cannot work in my yard on shi.t that needs doin. I refrained after hearing a story from my next door neighbor that two weeks ago she hired two whom demanded more money that was originally agreed upon once they were finished with the job. She told them to take a hike because they had struck a deal... then later that day they returned to her property and stole all her yard tools and other misc stuff from her garage....

I took x-rays of a worker hired off the street; he fell off a ladder, breaking his wrist and ankle. The scumbag that hired him dumped him off at the front door of the ER and left.

I live in an area with a 52% hispanic population. We have an area designated for day laborers (pick up/drop off sight) lat I checked there was no sign saying brown skin only..... farmers, contractors, and home owners use them on a daily basis. not sure how the legalities work out but you can pay cash if they work under a certain amount of hours, something like that.... Have worked with them and have hired them. 90% are very hard working and send most of their income home to families. some even have full time jobs and just do this on the weekend for extra income.
I don't have a problem with those who don't have a job but are willing to work. hell, even the waisted [Bleeeeep!] that rolls around on a bike/trailor combo picking up cans it at least trying to pay for another 4 loco and a pack of Mavericks..... (4 loco reference is for abu and todd) However, what I do have a problem with is the punk bitches that stand at an off ramp with their face all pierced up, quilt pants, a dog, backpack, and a sign asking for change...........attire changes with the seasons of course.

Jeez Salmo, calling out a scumbag for dumping an injured employee on the front steps of the ER gets you wired up? There's no winning with you peabrains. You might have thought he was a conservative hero type of mine until you realized this happened in Marin County. That's the congressional district of 10-term Socialist/Democrat Lynn Woolsey..the same Lynn Woolsey that got over 70% of the vote (they gave Obama over 78%) in her last election run. That means the scumbag had better than a 7-in-10 chance of being one of the folks you love and admire..the over-250K earners that vote for and donate to the Democratic Party; the ones Schumer doesn't want to tax because they donate so much. The ones who talk the talk but don't walk the walk. As a salaried employee, being stiffed for services rendered isn't my concern.

Your guess would have less than a 3-in-10 chance of being correct. You want to bet odds like that? I'd be interested in seeing any praise that you can dig up that I had for conservative businessmen with the ethics of that scumbag.
Any guesses on how many ex and current Goldman employees are working for or have worked in the administrations of both parties? Those bastids cheat and steal legally.

People in construction work their azzes off & too bad they can be sold so cheap. Funny thing about contractor insurance - it is expensive for a VERY good reason - more people hurt or killed in the industry than any other. Know someone who is now living on tubes & another w/ mom & dad...my neighbors brother was in a coma for 6 months & now progressed to a nursing home... only cause they ALL trusted a home owners ladder. [Bleeeeep!] that should've been thrown out- "tagged" - long before a foot ever stepped on a rung.
If an illegal immigrant can be paid living expenses on account of their anchor baby - they should be able to be paid to work. Immigration law is FUCHKED UP.

Yeah and you liked not having to pay social security, medicare, Wash. St L and I (workmens comp, insurance), employment security taxes. I'm sure you gave them their 20 min. breaks and spent countless hours providing safety training, etc. etc. Theres the problem. people use illegals for cheap, then bitch about the feds and states not doing anything about their illegal presence in this country. Here's what needs to happen. The Feds need to grant amnesty and issue temp. work visas. Document them and have them pay taxes on earnings. Stay out of trouble, stay and do the work no one else wants to do for cheap. Win win situation. homeowners and contractors get cheap labor if they want to pay the price. Add $5.00 per hour for state and federal requirements. Send 1099's misc and W-2's. If you're in compliance, keep working. If not, no more work until you are in compliance. I'm a general contractor and compete in the bidding process with othe GCs who use illegals all the time. Not fair at all and I can't compete with these underbidding aholes. I watch them pick up workers at home depot all the time. The state should record license numbers and do follow ups on these GCs and see if they are paying employee taxes AND state sales taxes. Lots of revenue to be had there. GUARANTEED it would pay for the enforcement.

What would happen if the U.S. actually had a surplus of money? The value of the dollar would be a lot less.

When I was talking to my accountant about a flip I was working on, he said the biggest exposure for hiring workers from Home Depot or unlicensed contractors is if they get hurt on your property, you may be faced with a large claim that your insurance may not cover. I took x-rays of a worker hired off the street; he fell off a ladder, breaking his wrist and ankle. The scumbag that hired him dumped him off at the front door of the ER and left. I bet a Home Depot browner could push the button for a lot less dough.

"browner"? How derogatory and racist of you. Would you care to qualify that term?

"browner" aka "short for the previously mentioned derogatory term brown skinned" aka someone who can do every bit of Hanksters job for a lot less money. RWWJ's like to refer to them as freeloaders, illegals, wetbacks, etc. unless it's an election year.

No slip of the tongue it was an intentional play on the already used term. As much as you'd like to Fox News it.....you end up just looking like your typical RWWJ self....who pushes a button for a living....and who's brain has been irradiated to less than a marsupials capacity.

Says the racist with a single-cell brain. In the mean time, SCOTUS is hearing arguments on the AZ immigration law today; doesn't look good for the government's case. The "wise Latina woman, with the richness of her experiences, would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life" told the federal governments' lawyer that key parts of his arguments were "not selling very well."

This went around facebook awhile back:
SO LET ME GET THIS STRAIGHT ... If you cross the North Korean border illegally, you get 12 yrs. hard labor. If you cross the Afghanistan border illegally, you get shot. Two Americans just got eight years for crossing the Iranian border. If you cross the U.S. border illegally you get a drivers license, food stamps, a place to live, health care, housing & child benefits, education, & a tax free business ...No wonder we are a country in debt.
Ok just gotta add in keeping w/ the truth- only if you can reproduce - anchor babies! Also gotta add & you can't have a REAL job - just upturned noses hiring you cause they are cheap & think you are worth less.

It surprised the hell out of me. I was thinking just the opposite was happening before I came across the report. He earned some points on that one. I wonder how many people would vote from him on that one fact alone?

I wonder how many people would vote from him on that one fact alone? They all got absentee ballots, free transportation to see their families and an invite to come back after the election. My guess is all but a few of them vote for the Big-O.

under the Obama administration there is more oil being produced domestically RIGHT NOW than there ever was during the Bush Administration.
Fish on...
Todd Todd, Todd, Todd; how long are you going to keep repeating that Rachel talking point when you know for a fact 97% of the oil is being pumped from non-federal land? Oil production on federal land has declined by 17,000 barrels a day since the Big-O took over. Besides that, he's sicking the EPA on the private-property drillers. Go ahead...keep that up until you really believe it yourself.

You know better (or at least I HOPE you do) than that. What I clearly stated is there are 17,000 fewer barrels being produced every day on federal lands since the Big-O came aboard. 97% of the oil produced is on private property.
You can look it up.

Todd, for the final time, I never said there wasn't more oil production. What I said is the record oil production we have now has nothing to do with Obama's policies. His policies have hindered production, or we'd have more.
I have no problem with alternative energy. What I object to is forcing it on us when the technology hasn't advanced to the point where it's competitive in pricing.

First off, there was no mention of subsidizing alternative energy in my post. What I said was I object to the more expensive alternative energy being forced on us which drives up consumer cost. Secondly, $300 or $400 a barrel is speculative at best. I haven't seen anything published that predicts that; maybe you could cut-n-paste something for me.

Hank, So what's your idea or plan? Don't develop alternative energy sources and leave it to the free market to react? Alternative energy sources are being developed in the free market. Big Oil is spending a lot and BP is #3 in the solar panel market. They've been working on that swamp-gas algae fuel since around '07. As stated previously, I object to the "we need it right now" philosophy. My idea would be to develop the technology to the point where it's much more competitive in price and the suppliers could then use it without a huge increase in our utility bills. The abundance and low cost of natural gas will starve out the coal-fired plants and it's clean energy to boot. Energy from coal is down from 57% in '85 to 42% last year. At the end of this year it will be 40%. There's an estimated 400 year supply of shale oil in the Green River area of CO (not to mention the Bakken reserves), so a jump to alternative fuels that cost more, right now, isn't imperative in my mind.

Great post Illiterate! Who gives a f*** what color they are! We're all Heinz 57's as far as I'm concerned. Just the fact that anyone is willing to try and seek any and all work in order to feed themselves and their family, should be commended. Alot of us out here are a paycheck or two from having to join them or face foreclosure, food banks, etc. Have you read the newspapers about what is going on in the housing industry in this country? The hardest hit are the carpenters, laborers. Guess what? Californias housing market is one of the hardest hit areas of the country.
