Very nice. I'm glad someone is having good success finding birds. I hunted earlier in the season and had a heck of a time. Keep it up.

CWU, were you hunting Cook Creek? It is nice to see a lady in the field, we need more of them out there.

Andy Cook Creek? You mean Cook Canyon or Reecer Creek game preserves, lol? Neither... those are wild birds, taken on a couple nameless public access points between the U Road/warden exit off of I-90 and Warden. Don't "hunt" the pens other than to buy a few birds for dog training! :p I agree there needs to be more of us out there...but I like my all male crew!

Hey CWU,
I am heading over to the Potholes for some duck hunting, but if it's slow I may want to hunt some upland birds. The problem is that I don't know of any public land in that area for pheasants. I don't want to know your zipperlip spots, but some direction would be much appreciated. You can email me to keep the info off the board.
Thanks and good shooting.

Thanks and good shooting. Since you are headed over to the potholes anyway, stop in at Mar Dons and pick yourself up a Royal Booster Hunting Program membership ($200 for the season, $75 per day, half price for youth). It will give you access to 25,000 acres+ of private hunting land. As I have seen far too many men wearing camo dawning the cheap-orange walmart special vest(or no orange at all- lovely) because duck numbers are so off this year, I can't share public land with ya! Too much competition as it is. Well, I'll point you in the direction of land I DON'T hunt, which isn't a judgement on it's viablity, I just don't hunt it. The Winchester Wasteway can have good numbers of pheasant (I've seen 20+ in the off season) and I believe the WDFW dumps birds out there. Also, check out the massive public land near the Moses Lake airport. Sky pig numbers have been decent if you want to go that direction. As for northerns... I wouldn't hold you breath. It's still mild over here and a week ago in the pot holes area, I was not seeing an increase in duck numbers. In Late November I saw a surge in numbers in the area- went from seeing 100 a day to 2000 a day, but they've gone an disappeared again. At one point, I saw a flock of northerns easily 800 strong, they looked like starlings they were so thick. Good luck!

Thanks for the info CWU. My father keeps a travel trailer and the boat at Mardon all season. My little bro and I are headed over Sunday morning to scout and then hunt the next few days. We're hoping that the wind and rain will keep the few local birds moving. If not, we will probably be walleye fishing. Thanks again!

Hey cowboy here are a couple of areas to try. One is upper crab creek I mean north of moses lake. Lots of cattails ect...
The second and my favorite is lower crab creek almost where it dumps into the columbia. Just follow the creek and if you can get accross it even better. We used to drift it inour 12 foot boats when the atrer is good. Get out and hunt in some places and get some jump shooting in on ducks as well. I would also look at the booster she spoke about it is a great organization and some of the land is great.
Some times it pays to get out and knock on doors. I have done well overthe years doing that as well.
Good luck and great shooting.

Lower Crab Creek, you must be Hunting just below the 4x4 off road park.
There used to be some good pheasant hunting jssut south of Othello going over Radar Hill and down near the dam on Hwy 17 just north of the Connell Turnoff near the old Cement Truck drum and off to the west of there. Matter of fact ther's some pretty good little potholes down in the scabland between Connell and the Boy's Ranch over on Radar Hill all the way over to Sin City (oops mean Basin City.

Too bad the pheasant season is 2 days from over. My pheasant season (might get out tomorrow, but probably not)... Fair at best- although great dog work helped a lot!! The hatch in SE WA and in the basin was off- the SE pop was very, very down. The basin was probably equal if not increased from last year. But the hunter population seemed higher than last year- maybe because the duck season has been slow. Royal booster was pathetic at best. All dirt with a few widely distributed fields that were somewhat productive. I will not be spending the $200 for next year. Public land was by far the most productive!! Ohh well, there's always next year... and yes, I count the days. Just need to marry someone with land in South Dakota!! :p
