Glacier Bear Lodge is up and running and here is the first trip out to the Halibut grounds! Check out the snow in the background! Roads are open and the Steelhead fishing pretty darn good as well.

Many do not need a guide but the majority of new people need at least one day with a guide so they don't wast 1 or 2 days figuring it out. It does take some figuring! I have seen many seasoned vets hook 2 or 3 fish in a morning and the guys that know how, where and what to fish catch 20 or 30. Heck, one of the partners was up over the weekend and he is our token fly fisherman and a darn good one and he hooked 20 fish his first drift!! If he can hook that many, it must be great, he is a fly fisherman! Just think what a real gear chucker would hook!

Lots of long faces on the river.... rain rain go away, I think some numbers may have gotten slightly exaggerated but there are definitely some fish in the river, waiting out the tidefish on day one was the best, supercool to spot and cast to them with drift gear, we hooked seven or eight on friday floating and they were all fresh fish, plenty of traffic on the river too, going with a guide that had hit it for several days previous would be a bonus in knowing where the fish were, lots of empty habitat right now... upriver was a bit of a goatshow with the holding spots locked up early, rough walking with 4 and 5 ft of snow in places so prospecting would wear a guy out. Hali fishing was great, limited on biggun's on Saturday, released many lings as the season is not open yet.

These are Bernie/Gary/StrikeZones pics.... I don't have any and he can't post pictures... so there. We were able to watch the snow disappear, the rain was washing it away muy rapido. Gary/StrikeZone/Bernie broke the ice early and often. ...not bad for a smallish darkish fish I on the other hand got some bright ones.... okay, one. (suck it, Washington Enforcement ) Saw a major northern migration event the day we arrived, wave after wave of geese and cranes went over that afternoon.... easy 10,000 probly closer to 15,000, it was impressive to say the least, a pair of eagles put on an aero show for about an half hour too, high speed fly-by's that took you by surprise at 15 to 20 feet away, [Bleeeeep!] are fast when they want to be... it was a good welcoming committee. StrikeZone/Gary/Bernie with another tide runner. okay, I got two. Pete and Eric from the lodge moved us up to Saturday on the ocean to beat a storm that was coming in on sunday.... Good move. Kinda cold, it even got pretty rough, Gary had a night on the town (morning?) and had to take a break, the other Steve on board was chumming.... so I had the back deck to myself for about 3 hours, I liked it. A stringer to remember. Good time in a good place, as easy going of a lodge as you will find...do what you want, when you want, how you want..... hell, I hear the ascoteers will even tolerate a spey cast kwikfish on occasion, and if they won't, I say [Bleeeeep!] 'em, and GLacier Bear Lodge will back me up. Thanks to Pete and Eric and the rest of the crew up there, and even though I'm already sick of eating halibut... I'm fixin' to be back.

Hey, I only have two hands! Oh the pressure. I'm thinking I can get a picture of a 20 plus pounder as I'm bringing BFD.

We will get some pics when we get back, off to a good start so far. Chris & I hooked 24 between us on Thursday walking the bank and 17 today drifting the river. Found a lot of fresh fish today, I think we had the lucky rods.
