so i headed out of keystone launch ramp yesterday fished the admiralty inlet for 3 hrs with no luck. then made a move to eastern bank with no luck. fished partridge bank last sat. with no luck either. anyone having any luck in these areas? i would luv to just catch some halis this yr. all i caught yesterday was a decent size cabazon that i released. only 2 boats of the long line at the ramp had fish on board. and they all said they were out in the same areas as me. i am just fishing hearing on 7/0 8/0 hooks on steel leader, any tips for me as well. thanks

Does your boat have a bottom finder? If you're catching cabs, you're in the wrong area for 'butts.

i have a hds 8 and bottom was flat as can be and was very soft i could feel it sink in when i bounced my weight off the bottowm. i used a spreader bar. this is a new boat for me i have only onwed it for a week i bought the hds8 at wholesale sports when the blew out the gen1's a few weeks back i could not pass up the 425.00 price tag on a new unit with insigght us no transducer but i bought the airmar p66. i was curious what a cabazon was doing in that area as well. they buddy i took hooked into one but snapped his mono line. i also have a garmin gps 235 map sounder on the boat that was showing flat bottom as well. maybe it was just a bad day to be out there. any other tips would be great because i know i caught one in the same spot last yr. verified with the 3rd unit i took off my other boat with the spot saved as a way point

It's been kind of slow in MA 6, at least for me. Know a guy who has been anchoring up and has caught 4 fish so far this year. Might want to try that technique. Let the fish come to you. Otherwise, just keep trying...and try some new areas. Good luck.

Make sure you spend some $$ though...the last thing you want is only EXTREMELY LARGE structure to show up.

I just wanted to throw in here that the pacific halibut fishing here in Northern California has been limit style fishing since the opener on the 1st. 1 fish per person a day through October, no size limit and no quota.

Another reason to hate us. grin

I anchor up and have got my Halibut every day (minus today since I worked). THis is my first year Halibut fishing and find it to be rather easy (maybe I am just lucky). Pick up a map that gives you the make up of the bottom and fish in areas that are sand/gravel. Also I have stayed between 65 - 100' all six days I have fished.

Interesting about the S. Oregon and N. California season structure. IPHC quota for 2012 is 6,056 lbs of halibut for the sport catch.

I'd be interested in the harvest numbers and how many people are fishing for halibut down there (S of Cape Falcon). Seems like a liberal season structure for a very limited harvest quota.

Looks like Mr. Vedder had a good day in the gulf of Alaska on the Aerofish!

All joking aside, they are actually in the works of changing our regulations for 2013. I guess we have been hiding in the shadows for long enough.

Didn't mean step on the original thread.
