Here is the Skinny on the Humptulips clipping info........ They are clipping Kings now and have hired an outside group to come in and finish the job. The Dept. understands there shortcomings in this volunteer effort and we are working together to try it again on the Coho which we will start clipping after the Kings ! If anyone is interested Iwill put the nessecary info on here and if no one is then we will bag that part of it. There were a large number of us slated to work over the next few weeks and we never got there because of the lack of turnout and Ron was left with no other option then to pull the plug. They understand that there needs to be one person in charge of this whole operation which last up to 6 weeks and is a huge under taking. We all learned through this little failure but can build on it and learn from our mistakes. Ron asked me to be this contact info up here so we will see if we get any interest for the coho clipping.
Thanks for everything, I guess I will try even a little harder next time. Fly

I'm stepping in on this project now. I emailed Ron and let him know that I would be willing to take a day off of work, drive from Seattle to the Hump, and volunteer a day to help clip coho. Not only that, but I said I would help facilitate the passing of any information that he or his managers gave to him about the project. I can guarantee that Joe won't be taking the heat for this next project....he'll just bask in the glory when all said and done! Here's his Ron's reply to me: "Michael, thank you very much for the email and the offer to assist in the future. I've cc'd Randy Aho, Regional Hatchery Operations Manager, and Ken Isaksson, Hatchery Supervisor for multiple facilities with the Grays Harbor basin.
We have not yet made final decisions whether or not to attempt more volunteer activity this year. Your offer to assist us in communicating accurate timely information is certainly an offer that we will seriously consider accepting in the future. We'll stay in touch with you in coming weeks to communicate our intentions relative to future marking this year.
Thanks again for your email."If and when I receive any information on this project, I will start a post about it. No idea if it's going to happen, but if it does, there's little to no valid reason why *ANY* of you who have fished the hump for salmon can't and shouldn't volunteer a day/days of service for this project. This is especially true for anyone who utilizes the Hump for a living. If you do, have, or will guide on the hump for salmon, plan on clipping some coho if the project starts up. Again, thanks to all who participated in the chinook clipping. Lessons were learned and now let's take it up a notch if and when we get a chance at the coho. Keep an eye out for updates and new posts as I get new information in. As they say, stay tuned......

This is great news. I had some discussion with the hatchery guys when we were there and was told they were probably going to have to hire a crew. I'm glad that there are (possibly) no hard feelings between all the parties involved and that our first attempt is being viewed as a learning experience. The fact of the matter is with a slow economy and budget cuts we as fisherman may have to be more proactive. If we want to keep up the numbers of hatchery fishery opportunities available whether it be a terminal meat hole or our own secret spot, more activities like this may need to occur. Joe Thanks for even getting the opportunity for us to help out in the first place. I and I'm sure many others appreciate you taking this on. Parker Thanks for offering your administrative services for a potential future project. I think someone taking the helm on that end would resolve some confusion between all parties. I would also like to thank you for locking and removing any negative threads related to this subject. I know it's easy to get frustrated at times, but finger pointing, name calling and flat out bitching is simply unproductive. Let's all try to be civil from now on and come up with solutions to the issues at hand rather than taking the lower road. We have a lot of issues to deal with in the future if we want our kids and grandchildren to enjoy the streams, rivers and waterways as we do today. If we can make this work who knows what other positive changes we can make in the future. OK sorry about the preaching. Done preaching!!!! Thanks in advance and Tight Lines to all

It's not my close to home water, but if I know what day is planned for the clip -a- thon and with a little bit of lead time to adjust my plans, I'm pretty good with scissors.
Send me a PM if you get a day/date. Thx Redd

If I clip fish but don't fish the Hump, is that a backdoor form of socialism??
I should be good for at least one day. As long as its not in June or August.

A question to pose to WDFW would be if you put in enough hours as an individual (24 hours) would the project qualify for a free Discover Pass. http://www.discoverpass.wa.gov/faq/#volunteers

I'm in Woodinville, but am willing to offer a couple of days work when the time comes -- assuming I can get away from the office.
A night or two at Linda's Low Tide Motel and some fried food and beer at the Green Lantern beckon me. Yum.

Looks good Salmo g. The hatchery needs you there Saturday. Think I have a few more for Saturday too. We could really use 12 people a day. It is going to be hard to fill if nobody shows to help. So far, not many have responded to the weekdays, but maybe if the Fly will make a post for this event we will get something going. Thanks, fp

Here is the deal, there will be a special posy with all kinds of info coming soon.......Parker has been gracious enough to volunteer to handle it on the PP end and to help with admin stuff. Ron Warren is very happy with the amount of people who have stepped up but still is not so Happy with certain individuals within his dept. who dropped the ball and pointed the finger. To all of you who signed up withme and never got a response from the dept. hangon because they have your info and will be getting a hold of you....If you dont hear from them please feel free to sign up on the CAA site and or call or e-mail me and I will make sure it happens.............
Good on all of you for helping out and understanding and not talking trash ! It will come around to " THAT GUY " I will personally see to it.
Thanks again Fly
