The guided fishing trip donated by Superfly will
be drawn after the last Coho is clipped today.

The ballot box is not stuffed with fp ballots but
I would indeed like to win it.

And the winners of the free guided fishing trip with Superfly are:

Salmo g. and Softbite.

Please make sure you contact the Fly and get your date on his books.

Dag-gonnit, I tried but failed to win.

Thanks to all that played and thanks to Fly for donating. A full report later as I need a nap,

My congratulations to all who participated. You'll have a much better season coming up than you otherwise would have.

Volunteer activities are important adjuncts to the WDFW program. There a lots of folks who donate time. The resource benefits as do those who use the resource.

Chant begins,

Fred...

Fred...

Fred...

Fred...

I am just happy Pam and I got to play for a day, met some great people, and there will be silvers in a couple of years. Also, it is good to support the dedicated WDFW folks with rubber boots in the slime every day.

We made it and it was a job I didn't think would be that tough, but it was.

Could never of done it without all the help we got each day.

A couple of the clippers that really was there everyday was Steve B, Ernie, Mikey B, Ron E and several others. These guys should get most of the credit. We would be there another week if ya weren't there.

OK, nuff of the BS. I'll have all the numbers soon as Ron E. gets them all added up. It was a bunch.

Here is the items Ron E. totaled up. 1112 man hours and 157 hours travel time. This cost the WDFW zero as we all covered all our own expenses.

Next on my plan is to see why we can't get the free Discovery Pass's that a person can get for donating 24 hours to the WDFW. They want us to sweep up and cleaning around boat launches and such and pick up limbs instead of saving the department the clipping fees.

Last tank almost empty. This is the one we were looking for.

And here is fish number 421,850 being clipped by yours truly.

Congratulations to Salmo g. and Softbite for doing yer share of the work and now are being awarded with winning the guided trip donated by Superfly.

And, ya ain't through with me yet. Here is a letter I got from the guys that run the hatchery. Thanks, it was fun.

Humptulips Fish Hatchery Statement

The crew from the Humptulips Hatchery would like to thanks everyone who gave their valuable time and made such a great effort to clip Chinook and Coho the last couple of weeks.

The average number of fish clipped per day was 44,000. Things went very well and it was good meeting and getting to know many of you.

Dave Crosby (Humptulips Store owner) cooked well earned lunches for the volunteers and Fred kept everyone informed of what was happening. Thank you for stepping up. Summer and fall will be much smoother around here because of the sacrifice all of you made.

Thanks again,

Hump Crew

Awesome. Had a crazy month so I wasn't able to be involved with the Coho portion, but have been able to watch the progress thanks to Fred's posts. Thank you Fred, Joe and all that participated. Cool to watch how this whole project unfolded. A few can make a difference. Thanks again.

Q. Can volunteers obtain a complimentary Discover Pass?
A. Yes. Volunteers who work 24 hours on agency-approved projects can earn a complimentary annual pass. Each agency must provide vouchers to volunteers, recording the number of hours they worked on each project. Volunteers can redeem the voucher for the annual Discover Pass. The three agencies have developed policies for the complimentary Discover Pass, such as where and how volunteers get vouchers, what constitutes an agency-approved project and where people can go to redeem their vouchers.

Q. Who is eligible to earn a complimentary Discover Pass?
A. Participants must be approved, registered volunteers who have completed any and all required training and work on agency-approved projects.

Q. What training is required?
A. The agency conducting the volunteer event will determine what kind of training, if any, is required.

Q. How do I get a complimentary Discover Pass?
A. Each eligible volunteer may receive one complimentary Discover Pass by participating in 24 hours of work on eligible volunteer projects and providing documentation of participation on Volunteer Vouchers provided by the agencies.

Q. How many complimentary Discover Passes can I earn?
A. One complimentary Discover Pass will be issued to an eligible volunteer in any 12-month period.

Q. What volunteer projects are considered eligible for the Discover Pass?
A. Together, the three agencies have developed general criteria for volunteer and project eligibility. In addition, each agency is developing specific criteria for its volunteer program.

Q. Do I need to purchase a Discover Pass, or a WDFW Vehicle Access Pass (where applicable) to access state recreation lands while participating in eligible volunteer projects?
No. Volunteers will be provided with a "business only" temporary pass on the day of a scheduled volunteer event, which will allow them access for that day.

Q. What are Volunteer Vouchers and how do I get them?
A. Whenever you participate in a Discover Pass-eligible volunteer project or event, you may request a Volunteer Voucher from agency staff. The voucher documents participation and the number of hours worked.

Q. Who tracks and maintain my Volunteer Vouchers until I am ready to redeem them for a pass?
A. As a volunteer, you are responsible for filling out and maintaining your Volunteer Voucher for each eligible project in which you participate. Agency staff will sign your completed Vouchers. Once you’ve accumulated 24 hours, you may redeem the vouchers for a complimentary pass.

Q. How do I redeem Volunteer Vouchers for a complimentary pass?
A. To receive your complimentary Discover Pass, follow the instructions indicated on the vouchers. Your Discover Pass will be mailed to you at the address you provide on your vouchers.

Q. Can I accrue volunteer hours from different agencies?
A. Yes. You may earn a complimentary Discover Pass by accruing eligible volunteer hours from one or all of the agencies—Washington State Parks, Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife and Washington State Department of Natural Resources.

Q. Can I combine my eligible volunteer hours/vouchers with another person, friend or family member and submit them for a complimentary Discover Pass?
A. No. Each individual must accrue at least 24 eligible hours to qualify for a complimentary pass.

Q. Can volunteers who receive anything in exchange for services, such as campground hosting (free campsite/utilities) or participating in WDFW’s Master Hunter Program (special hunting access), get a complimentary Discover Pass?
A. No. The hours of service in volunteer positions that already receive something in exchange for volunteer time are not counted toward a complimentary Discover Pass.

Q. Once I have received my first complimentary Discover Pass, can I continue to earn and save hours to exchange for additional Discover Passes?
A. Yes, you may continue to earn and save hours. You may receive only one complimentary Discover Pass per 12-month period, so any additional hours will go towards a future complimentary Discover Pass. You are required to keep track of your own hours and submit them each year.

Q. Do volunteer hours donated to fulfill requirements for purposes outside of State Parks, DNR, or WDFW count towards a complimentary Discover Pass?
A. No. Volunteer hours donated to fulfill requirements for outside purposes such as school credits, graduation, or court-ordered community service are not eligible.

Q. Where can I get information about eligible volunteer projects that count toward a complimentary Discover Pass?
A. More information is available at:

Washington State Parks information line — (360) 902-8844.
Washington Department of Fish & Wildlife Volunteer Program Coordinator — (360) 902-2802.
Washington State Department of Natural Resources — www.dnr.wa.gov/volunteer. (Follow the link to the volunteer calendar.)

Q. Where can I get information about eligible volunteer projects that count toward a complimentary Discover Pass?

Turns out fish-clipping is NOT on the list of approved projects to rack up volunteer hours for a discovey pass.

WTF?

OK boys… all your hard work is about to pay off BIG time.

Precluding any disasters at the hatchery prior to releasing the brood year that we clipped, those fish apparently swam into a very favorable ocean. Looky what they're predicting to storm the WA coast this fall….

The good news is that the preseason forecast is up 169% from last year. The bad news is that last year the actual run was 63% of the forecast. It still looks like a year with great potential.

Hey now, that little bugger needed room to grow and all those fins were just getting in the way of his/her potential. When one of you catch a finless 30lb. coho this year you will be buying me a round at the Green Lantern!

I guess a momentary lapse in judgement can happen after clipping 50,000 of those little buggers...lol
