Reelie? Er... I mean, really?

Painful to watch, but at least the guide puts the fish in the bag each time.

Man, I don't how you guides can do it....

That's how I imagine salmosalar reels in his fish.

Wow. That was bad.

Coaching clients in proper fish fighting techniques really only involves two concepts, 1. pump, 2. reel. Apparently this fellow was sick for the "pump" day at guide school.

The REEL REEL REEL method is admittedly one method of avoiding slack in the line.... but OMFG... at the cost of premature burnt drags, I'm sure.

My philosophy on fighting big fish is this:

Either the fish is taking line... or the angler is. There is no in between.

And reeling against the drag is only tolerated a moment or two before someone's got a head slap comin'.

4:30 in the first video "put the rod in the water" dude with the rod, "im gonna lay this bent rod right across your oar shaft because its pulling too hard"...

ive thought about getting a driftboat and my proper lisences to become a part time guide, but its videos like that, that make me think otherwise...

It is usually a self correcting error when using a spinning reel smile Doesn't take too many massive rats nests to learn the lesson. A little head slapping helps as well.

One more thing...

Does anyone understand the newby habit of gluing their eyes to the reel during the fight? I just don't get it. WTF? Are they worried that line is going to pile up in a big messy wad on the reel? That the reel is somehow going to explode while they're not looking? That it's gonna fall off the rod?

OK... with all that herky jerky goin' on with the rod, the reel might just work its way loose. So maybe there COULD be a reason to watch the reel.

Reelie? NO!

Watch the dam fish!

And that's why they call you Captain Bligh - - mutiny on the FV eyeFISH.

I still think it's funny that people think they "fight" fish. Really large gamefish maybe, but not most salmon-sized fish. Most of the world would think we're playing, and we are. We "play" fish. Fighting does suggest an element of mutual peril.

This discussion reminds me of a dialogue from "A River Runs Through It."

"No one who doesn't know how to fish should be allowed to catch a trout." or words to that effect.

However, because there are professional fishing guides who can make anyone feel like they're an angler, we get fun guys like - - Parker!!

And cardiac arrest for your clients. Very poor guiding.

Worthy....

Perhaps not ascot-worthy, but worthy nonetheless.

I'd watch my cyber-back if I were you.

The Paker's rumored to have one helluva stockpile of vengeful tactics to retaliate.

Course he could just take his ZING'in like a real man.
