Bead...yes. Better wobble, less line twist.
Bait? Not necessary, but it won't hurt.
Too big? Not at all.
Fish on...

I was only going to use a few. Is 10 pound too heavy for leaders?

Right now water is high, but color is great. Typical for this time on that river usually. Could change by Saturday, but shouldn't change much, if at all.

Damn Abu did you find the mystical metalhead stream on the island??? I heard is was a myth. Fving got it all, (bluewater fishing, diving, spearfishing, hotties on boards and now steelhead). I am jealous as hell now. I was only mildly jealous before. BTW thanks for your updates on the island life.

If I was a "newbie" to summer run steelhead, I'd:
1. Get a few floats, 5 different colors of 1/16 oz. jigs. Learn how to rig them correctly.
2. Have some leaders tied......20 - 24"........10 pound or even 8 pound. Some cheaters or corkies in small sizes 14 or 16. A few 51 - 60 prawns or sand shrimp.
3. Probably a few "spoons".....43 years of fishing steelhead....have NEVER caught a steelhead on a spoon but I have a few. I just need to "bag the jig fishing for a few weeks"....get a supply of "spoons" and really give them a try.
4. Spinners---Home made or Blue Fox, Size 4....
Good Luck.....

Got spinners in #3, 4, 5 and 6..
Got Pink Worms..
Got Bobbers, and about 5 jigs as I haven't figured out how to jig fish effectively yet..
Got spoons in gold, black, copper, and some Stee Lees that are colored..
Multiple sized Corkies, Cheaters, Okies, Spin n Glows ect..
Got about 30 nice spawn sacs tied up, nice bright red eggs..
Got a few shrimp...
Checked the flow charts and HOLY CRAP, it's higher than I thought.. Now I am second guessing even going, but may run down for a couple hours today to one spot that I know isn't going to be very deep, but way higher than normal.. Fish should be laying under the brush on the far side of the river..Haven't decided yet..
10 or 12# mainline? I generally run 12 for everything from Kings to late Silvers ect, but I have waaaaay more 10 pound as I dont use it much except for leaders..

Tokul Creek is the biggest joke fishery next to Minter Creek this side of the Mississippi... I wouldn't be caught dead fishing it..
If you must know, I will be concentrating on the upper portions of the Green..

I always use barbless, regardless if its legal to use barbed or not, just my preference..
Should I be focusing below Soos? Or screw the Green and go elsewhere?
It also doesn't say anything about Selective Gear in the regs, are you saying I shouldn't use baits to keep from hooking and killing smolts of the 6 wild summer runs there?
