both of those videos were just painful to watch. They made it way harder than it needs to be and way less fun! we have to remember that those clients have probably never hooked a fish like a king though.

It all boils down to this - I'm right, everyone else is wrong, and anyone who disputes this is clearly a dumbfuck.

Paker knows wtf is going on. You won't see him in any lame-[Bleeeeep!] video like these. He may pal around with the who's who in the fishing world, but I don't think you'll find much about his fishing or fish-landing technique that needs correcting.

So it was a questionable Zzzzzzzzing. Half points at most.

These videos show you why guides get paid. A couple times I was thinking "seriously?". There should be a fine.

If it was my boat, my gear, and my guide's license, reeling against the drag would be an automatic head slap with video of same posted on YouTube as clearly denoted in the contract for services. Reeling recidivists would get the wood shampoo demonstration for free.

Could be a viable niche market, as I'd likely have lots of clientele that would bring problematic spouses, co-workers, neighbors, and others who were generally a PITA....

I don't blame the folks doing the reeling one bit. They were only doing as instructed. As Doc mentioned, I think this guide coaches his folks in this "technique" so as not to have to instruct them on the finer points of not introducing slack into the system.

But, but Dan, I didn't intend to suggest that Parker doesn't know how to hold a rod or reel. I've seen him do it right. I thought the post was zing worthy because of Parker's one-to-one correlation with numerous photos of fish caught, all while fishing with a well-known PP guide. Dang, yer a hard decider to please!

I think Coley deciphered these videos correctly. The guides had the clients never stop reeling so as to avoid slack line. The videos were 100% effective in dissuading me from getting a fishing guide license.

The Kasilof is a pretty entertaining place to people watch. I was there for a couple of days last week. The highlight of the many gems that I happened across was the guy trying to line sockeye with a 15' spey rod. He was in the flipping line with everyone else, balls deep of course, and making casts that were approximately half the length of his fishing pole. I couldn't help but think of the brothers Salmo and how proud they would have been.

That's a low blow Coley, one I'd like to think is beneath your dignity. Gear does not an angler make. Poor technique, whether with a Spey rod or an upside down yellow spinning rod, is still poor technique.

I give everyone the benefit of doubt Coley; you don't have to claim it.

And all in good humor. I just haven't figured out how to insert those smiley emoticons in my posts. Must be like adding photos or something.
