This year I am taking my dad to Idaho for the first time elk hunting. We have tags for McCall area and I am looking for any general info for that area. After talking to a game biologists, we decided to give that area a try. We have been hunting eastern Oregon for years and the area we currently hunt (Ukiah Unit) is limited to Spike only (at least the tags we seem to be able to draw), and has a bull to cow ratio of 9/100. According to the biologists I talked to, most of Idaho has a considerably better bull to cow ratio than that. My dad is getting towards the end of his elk hunting years so this is kind of a once in a lifetime deal. I have some topo maps of the area, but was looking for any information anyone might have on that area also. Looking at a completely new area with no real starting point is a little overwhelming. Also, we are not necessarliy looking to put any bulls into the record book. Mainly just to have a great time in a new area with a chance at seeing some elk. Also we are not looking for info on anyones honey holes. Any general info on where to get started would be greatly appreciated. Either reply here or email me at: jay104@starband.net . In exchange, I can gladly provide any information anyone wants on fishing the Rogue in Southern Oregon. I also would be willing to share the topo maps I have (they are on CD).
thanks,
gator
